Would like to share a brief experience of mine using this laptop. I purchased this laptop early 2006 from Dell Bangalore intermediate ring road outlet. Where the dell company is located. I was pretty much happy with it except that it heats up but that was fine with me. Also it weight which is fine with me. I never had any issues till 2 months back with this laptop what so ever. I must have reformatted it n number of times. Created deleted partitions. Changed the file system from ntfs to fat and vice versa but never had any complaints. My problems started 2 months back when my battery died completely and it would run only on adapter. I called the dell outlet. With great difficulty got to hear a human voice on the other end. My service warranty expired long back. Since I had taken only the 1 year warranty. Now here is the funny part. Dell will not service or help you i ncase your service warranty expires. A service warranty for dell inspiron 6400 would cost you 3200/- for a year and 2 years some 6k. I was not willing to renew my service warranty as I never had any complaints with my laptop ever since I purchased it in feb 2006.

So I did not find it useful to spend 3200 for a one year warranty. So now the dell guys tell me they cannot help me till I don't purchase a service warranty. I went to the intermediate ring road dell service center..meet up with an engineer Arun and was told the same thing. In the mean time my adapter died on sat so again today I went to the dell outlet told them that I want to purchase a new adapter and battery for the inspiron 6400. And I was told "sir till you don't purchase our service warranty we cant help you" then my contact number was taken and I was told that I would be contacted by some dealer of dell in ban-galore for a replacement. When I asked to give me the dealer number I was bluntly denied saying they policy states they cannot disclose this information. I never got any call as yet. My laptop is sleeping without any adapter and battery. Anyone based out of Bangalore any help would be appreciated. I am not aware whether this is the policy with every laptop brands that in case I do not purchase a service warranty I will never get they services.

I do not understand as to why I should pay 3200/- per year for service warranty when I never ever had any complaints with my laptop except for the battery and adapter dying out...any suggestions by any members would be appreciated

Thanks

Rahul
