Let me start writing the first thing first. The intention behind making this movie is great. It is to show thereal faces which we all carry inside us. It is to show that how we get carried away with small things and small issues and how we neglect the broader picture which has a long impact on our society, our nation. The name of this movie is Delhi-6, and it is trying to convey a story from Delhi-6 but after watching this movie I realized that the message is not limited for only Delhi-6, it for entire nation and also for entire world.
Abhi(Abhishek Bachchan) brings back his “daadi”(grand-mother) from Newyork to Delhi-6 as she wanted to live her last days at her native place. Once he is in Delhi he sees a different world. It’s different from what he had thought of / lived in US. He realizes that the kind of love, affection, bond, unity people has in Delhi is incredible. I loved one dialog which Abhi whispers, “Hum soch rahe the daadi apno ko chhod ke kaha ja rahi hain, yaha to pata hi nahi chalta kaun apna hai kaun paraya”. This statement resembles thetrue Indian values, the spirit behind the world’s first and only culture which truly represent “unity in diversity” concept. Then, he also sees how few bunches of obscure people take advantage of kindness of masses. How simple and honest public gets carried away with emotions. He tries to remove differences and he becomes a victim of that. As I said earlier the intentions behind making this movie is incredible. We all should appreciate it.
The wrong portions of this movie are wrong in serious manner. The first thing which should have been avoided is to show / portray a symbolism of “Ayodhya Ram-Janma Bhumi”. I don’t know what was the thing going in the mind of Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra but he definitely hurt many emotions by taking away the seriousness of a big issue. He should understand that it is easy to relate issues but it is not easy to understand it. The second thing which I didn’t like was to portray a “monk” as a trouble maker. There are exceptions in every community but it doesn’t mean to generalize that. One must understand that sometimes good intentions can lead to bad outcomes.
Music of this movie has come from Oscar winner Rehman and he has done an exceptionally great job. “Mussacully – muttakully” has reached to the villages and people are lovingly humming this song. Sonam is looking fresh and she has done an excellent job as a “Delhi ki kudi”. Abhi has tried to represent an NRI though he doesn’t look that effective. In small characters, Om Puri, Vahida Rehman, Vijay Raj, Divya Dutta, Atul Kulkarni have done brilliant work. Rakesh Om Prakash Mehra is good at direction toughI would still rate “Rang De Basanti” over “Delhi-6”as far as direction is concerned. He has lost focus at few places in this movie.
This movie is good for those who like to watch realistic cinema, who like to see some real placesand some real people. Those who are aiming for a good entertainment and going to enjoy the 2.5 hours should avoid going for this.
