''Meri pass Maa hai.......''As a confident Shashi kappor says this as a response to Amitabh's retort of ''Mere paas Gaadi hai, Bangla hai, paisa hai.... tumhare paas kya hai ?'' Amitabh is speechless.. realizing in a moment how worthless his acheivements are in comparison to what he has lost!!!

This is the kind of emotions on which the magnum opus ''Deewar'' was mounted on. Undoubtedy a Classic on indian cinema. This movie released in 1975, directed by Yash Chopra and star cast including Amitabh Bachan, Shashi kapoor, Parveen Babi, Neetu Singh and above all the most significant character in this movie.. played by the mother to beat all mothers on Screen Nirupa Roy.

Like any great movie, this movie can be looked at from many a prespective.. through the travails of the angry young man.. or the movie that made the angry young man out of Amitabh.. movie that has shades of sibling rivalry, but I feel this movie exemplifies the spirit of a mother to the hilt.

Thsi movie shows the lengths and the hardships a mother goes into to bring up her children, the emotion attached with it all, and the sentiments children have towards their mother.

The movie starts of with a family, with 2 children leading a happy life... untill the father is branded dishonest and he abandons the family in shame.. the happless family is left to fend for itself and Nirupa roy dons the role of the provider for the family... Amitabh the elder sons helps in mother out by doing petty work and sends the younger brother to school..

Through the hardships the children grow and Amitabh becoms a aethist and a coolie in shipping doc, wheras the younger brother graduates.... Fate has planned different things as Amitabh is forced into a life of crime, where he feels he can make the money to keep his mother happy.. wheras Shashi Kapoor becoems a cop..

Realising his brother is a criminal, shashi tries to deter his brother but in vain. When the mother comes to know of this, she abandons his elder son, so that he will give up his criminal ways, thats where the immortal dialogue comes in.. Thats when amitabh realises the frugality of his actions... realizes the amount of loss he has incurred.. to lose ones mother, the emotions potrayed directy connects to the audience.

The movie ends when Shashi shoots his brother and Amitabh draws his last poweres to drag himself to his mothers arms before dying.. The acceptance of his folly and the surrender to the ultimate emotion that is mother hood... At this moment its as if Amitabh is saying '' Ab Mere paas bhi maa hai..... ''
