I divided this review into 2 parts. 1st part: before my kids joining in the school and 2nd part after joining. Very high level 1st part is good. 2nd part is not as good as 1st part. Mainly there is no process. Pl read the analysis.
I am NRI planning to move from US to India. Started looking for schools for my kids(6th and 8th.) in South Bangalore(Banashankari, jayanagar area). I called some schools, many schools were very arrogant, and some schools are very particular to tell their fee structure rather than answering my specific questions. Some schools are least bothered to respond for E-mails(though school name contains INTERNATIONAL). Finally I found a school Deccan international school. If I ask any question, admins gave answer politely without fail. It looks they are responsible. Then I thought I can consider this school. As my kids are in US and moving in July, they want to do Skype interview. We agreed on one time, Mrs. Bharati Krishnamoorthy(I guess she is dean of the school) called on time perfectly. First I spent couple of min. on skype, later I called my kids one after one. Really she is amazing. I don’t have any words to praise her. She is really very nice. I didn’t expect she would talk in such a nice manner. Though she spent very little time with each kid, I felt she understood my kids completely. She answered all my kids’ questions very patiently. My kids were very happy. Though I am born and brought up India, I didn’t expect such nice conversation. So we all felt very happy. After talking to her, I felt – I have not taken any wrong step. Regd fee: 6th grade(ICSE), admission fee is 80, 000 and tuition feel is 65, 500. For 8th grade(IGCSE), no admission fee, but tuition fee 1, 10, 000. I don’t know exact reason for waiving off admission fee for 8th grade kid. May be they started recently IGCSE and want to promote IGCSE. I can’t comment the fee is higher side or reasonable. This fee is excludes uniforms, transportation, books etc. Generally most of international schools offering sibling concession, here I didn’t find. I can give 5 stars, but I want to give it once my kids start going to school. As my wife is also working as a school teacher in US, I will wait until she talks s to the Deccan teachers. For now I am giving 4 stars. After one or two months, I will extend my review/rating with my further experience. Till now I am very happy. For now this is my experience with Deccan International School.
I reduced administration rating. They are very unorganized way. For ex: bus facility(commuting), admin asked parents to talk to bus drivers. Bus drivers asked parents to talk to one particular person. If you are looking for that person, went for lunch(at 3PM), it is exactly kids leaving time for home. I feel the correct thing is., everything should be chalk-out in the office rather than negotiating with bus drivers.
Next is. books, they charged~25K, later we need to buy some books through Amazon. After spending 25K, it is not a big deal for me to spend one more thousand in Amazon for French books. But they should not ask us to buy once they charge. Another problem is. uniforms. Even after one month, didn't get uniforms and shoes. Without uniforms, my kids feel they are odd man out. As they have not given shoes and taking more than a month, we had to buy shoes outside. These things are not proper place.
Some teachers really awesome, they knows how to handle the kids. It seems, some teachers doesn't know how to handle international students. If we talk to dean, the things will go very good. But we can't talk every small problem to dean(Mrs.Bharathi Krishnamurhy). I feel especially things should be proper format.
Personally I feel, teaching point of views they are good(though some teachers are not very well), but they have to improve a lot in administrative section.
