In a red cape, Deadpool is an antithesis to the superheroes. No real puff out the chest, no flying shields and vest, and no web slings shooting out of his palms. But this guy has an attitude, full of "bad guys can't see me bleed" quips. He is not averse to crypton - his worst kind of enemy is perhaps his own ego.
The novelty of this Ryan Renolds character stems from the outrageous aura. Think about it. He is that rare superhero whose company reads: the sidekick bartender, the love interest, the badass villains who have nothing to do with anything. And, the plot which is about a disfigured man taking revenge on those who did it to him. In most superhero films, villains have a purpose to their existence like controlling the world through high-tech gadgets. In Deadpool, villains exist for the sake of plot and it is purposeful. Now, that is cliche replaced with spoof.
If you do not relate to the film's running joke, then that shows how much platitude the Superman and the Spiderman franchises has vested in you. Pool deals with platitude maturely, driving blade through the stomach as if he is picking noodles on a fork. It is the movie's extended opening scene, a nod to the Tarantinian humor and gratuitous action, establishing Mr. Pool as a romantic hero with a disfigured face. The bad guys go to kill him and gets whirled in a bloodbath.
That is all you need to know about Deadpool's plot: that there are bad guys and good guys, but no superheroes. Ryan Reynolds bring an uncanny charisma to the titular role. This is evident the moment Deadpool gets in on the joke: "You may be wondering why the red suit? Well that's so bad guys can't see me bleed." In an earlier scene, he is seen drawing a Spidey caricature, so you know for whom that quip is meant. Deadpool occassionally breaks the fourth-wall and speaks to the audience.
It helps Reynolds is not shy of throwing in a punch line or two while doing the stunts. He is uninhibited in this movie. And, the sensuous Morena Baccarin is better than all the worst heroines which superhero movies have offered hitherto. You know, by worse I am also referring to Reynold's own Green Lantern. Now, that is a thing of the past for Deadpool has arrived with a lot of attitude and humor to boot.
