Nostalgia revisited!I remember as a kid I was damn attached to those stars which I used to get inmy copy for completing my homework, for neat handwriting, for good spelling, for behaving properly and so on. With every star my aspiration for getting more increased. I started working hard for it and the stars kept on increasing. Till the aspiration became a habit and soon a routine, which never affected me much. Now it was an accepted fact that my Copy would never return without a star. AndI just stopped there, between two tests/examinations. I won’t say that the Music class or piano sound which drifted from there never lured me. I was tempted and I was tempted like hell. But getting stars was my habit and I felt that I was too lazy or lacking in courage to step into that threshold of the Music Room. I took a Calligraphy class instead, to improve my handwriting. My Ambitions were limited and I never cared for the Dreams which got crushed on the Way…

Then 10 years back I moved to Bangalore and got busy earning the hard bucks the hard way and reassured myself that’s the way to go. I had piano classes next to my house, a very close friend house 10 mins walk away and many more such things which only this city offered. But I never had time till suddenly I choose to leave the city. With few weeks in hand I have my To-Do-List Ready with all things to do and bunch of people whom I have to meet before I leave. I want to go out and reach for things which I always wanted to. I want to go and sit with those little kids in the music class and start learning from scratch. NowI don’t care how much I spend on what .. all I care is I have no time and I have to do everything which is possible only in this city. This is just a city Imagine ! if you have to leave Life.

You suddenly wake up one day to realise you are on an Edge! For the simple reason that between getting these stars and successes and money, you forgot yourself in between. You never realized that Life is moving away and time is running short. Amar Kaul from Dasvidaniya just reaffirms your Logic!

Amar Kaul is a character picked up right from a normal Middle Class crowd. With a routine life which starts from a To-Do list of usual routine affairs like repairing a geyser, buying hearing aid battery for his mum to strictly not buying turai( I smiled on that!). As he struggles between a stubborn mother and an equally exasperating boss, his life has nothing mentionable to comment upon. Till he stumbles upon the fact that he has only few months to live upon. Suddenly the side which he never knew existed, takes form.A slightly Devilish side poking him and he realizes that there are many things he need to achieve upon before he sees the end….

Vinay Pathak as Amar Kaul walks in with a new Bucket List of Things to Do!Inspired by the movie The Bucket List, the story is a simple stark truth of an ordinary Man carryingextra-ordinary dreams. There is nothing flashy or unbelievable about the movie. The dreams are like as regular as the ones which any would possess and the characters playing the roles are just like the next door ones.

The role of a Next Door Guy by Vinay Pathak is most befitting. He just looks like the one made for such a role. I could relate to him as the typical Babu working as an Accounts Officer, throughout his life, and not uttering a word of rebel against anybody. Even when he decides to chuck off his usual humdrum, he still looks as ordinary. The Glitch of suddenly trying a new ground is present throughout. Devilish self which has been portrayed by Vinay himself surprises the audience no one will ever feel that they are not two characters and that’s what make me realise that actors like him are notdirector’s baby. Other actors in question were all gems like Sarita Joshi,Rajat Kapoor, Suchitra Pillai, Neha Dhupia has given notable performances.

Arshad Syed has done a brilliant task with the script, because I feel that even a remake needs a lot to work upon. Even though audience were able to figure out that scene were Amar proposes with sign language was inspired from movie “Love Actually” but they were not critical about it. Maintaining the essence of the original and adding personal touches in accordance to Indian scenario requires finesse forsure. Justice seems to be done here.

Shashant Shah’s direction seems to get the best support ever from a strong script and the finestof Actor ever. But nevertheless his directorial efforts in a preliminary takeare laudable.

The Music and Songs by Kailash are the pulse of the movie, integral to its Life. Kailash Kher sings Alvida as an intro of a guy lostin the hustle bustle of Mumbai Life. Muskurais another one which makes me feel lost like a stranger searching for its ends amongst a crowd, Sonu Nigam’s voice adds the required lilt along with Kailash. KailashKher again for Mumma is at his emotional best.

The look and feel of the movieplays an important role in making audience relate to the situation and the characters. For the same applaud should go to Art director Brij Bhushan Costume directors Anuja and Priyadarshani and Make upMan Arun Gire.

As Amar Kaul personifying a Common Man with Uncommon Dreams bids his last Goodbye or Dasvidaniya, he makes me realize that even I possess a list which is not usual but yet within my approach. And as I applaud over his success of Nine wishes I desperately hope that his Tenth Wish could be done in a better manner. A pic in the front page of the Newspaper, but not for my Death News!

We are not always lucky to be aware of GoodByes .. sometimes it just happens one random day … don’t wait with your WishList till it turns into a Urgent To-Do-List !
