A visit to Mysore without pilgrimage to Dasaprakash is like going to Agra and giving the Taj Mahal a miss, and neither is over hyped!
The hotel and restaurant are in the middle of the market, walking distance from the palace. The exterior is beguiling and so is the interior décor but a visit here would leave any food connoisseur gushing and in raptures. I’ve met many a fans who are left wordless and salivating at the mention of dasaprakash’s vadas and dosas, an immediate trip down memory is a natural subsequent step!
We’ve visited the place many a times and each visit warrants the tasting of a few of our favorite and experimenting with a few new delicacies. This time we reached at the perfect time for tiffin and so plunged whole heartedly into the medu vadas and banana bhajji…the chutney is absolutely superb!
But in keeping with the adventurous trip we decided to test the fruit salad with icecream that looked very attractive on the table beside us. Any my! what a surprise, there was not a hint of the disgusting sugar syrup that usually floats about in fruit salad bowls that we’ve had the misfortune of having in other restaurants down south.
My sister in law vouches for the bissibile bhaath, though the looks of it frankly proposed the opposite and I’m told that the poori sabzi is a huge local favorite too.The restaurant itself is actually quite clean and they are not afraid for you to glimpse the kitchen through the swinging door, and that counts for something.
It’s a great restaurant, value for money and I know there are plenty of them as part of the Dasaprakash chain, but this is the original and the best! An evening trip down to Mysore on any weekend is made perfect by snacks at Dasaprakash followed by the obligatory hour at the Palace grounds being dazzled by the light show.
Thoroughly recommended for the ordinary AND the extraordinary.
