Having stayed in the north of India for long time, I was surprised that the synonym of wrestling is also Dangal. I did not know and this was refreshing.
Having seen Sultan some time back, I expected a repeat of the story in some form. But when I heard that Aamir was acting in the movie I realised that there would be something different. And coming one after the other would make it different.
One promo I saw which was different and there the girl took the lead. With mixed feelings and waiting for some surprise went to see the movie.
It was all out entertainment with nationalism in the form of sport, wrestling.
Aamir looks dashing in the beginning, and the subject tread thereafter could have been shown seriously. But when the ritual came to shed the burden of missing the Olympic medal by training his daughters it turns out to be very entertaining. You can suddenly relate to the Hamlets in Haryana with comfort of laughter-as the movie was made.
Children are also good looking and their presence in the movie adds to the charm of wrestling.
I am sure the real life would have been less dramatic but all what’s shown in the movie happened in the course of one life. What a marvel achievement in the end, as shown in the movie and also for real life, when the daughters gain laurels from the common wealth.
Aamir trains them hard and eventually the eluding Medal comes to his reach after his daughter beats a person from another country in the international event. The wrestling sequences are the scoring points of the movie and for even for a second you don’t feel that the moves were not up to the mark.
Imagine the real Phogat who scaled this task. It is almost impossible and he made it possible. I believe the difficulty when deciding on the matter should have been shown more with grave concerns – more interaction with wife and so on. This would have done good to Aamir and the real hero.
When you do a subject on sport for the flag the reach is national soon spreads international. So the movie has to be good. And it is. Please watch.
But this movie sometimes makes me think. Mainly because when at home we insist to our children to study, do their daily chores, does it really take you to be a champion yourself in a sport to train your kids in the same sport and attain glory? I wonder.
