DANGAL.
" When life knocks you down on your knees, REMEMBER. you are in a perfect position to shoot down for a DOUBLE LEG TAKE DOWN ."
This summarises the strory of Dangal.
It is extremely difficult to say whether it is a director's film or Aamir 's film or the entire star cast's film. It was certainly a star cast and not just a cast, for every single character in the film seems to be tailor made for the script. The director Nitesh Tiwari has risen from the genre of small budget, multiplex cinema to the grandeur of mainstream international cinema. India finally gets a worthy contestant for an oscar entry.
Ever since international production houses like, Disney and Fox have entered the Indian cine bazaar, the truly talented directors whom nobody knew, have suddenly overshadowed some big names who only encashed on hype and undeserved stardom.
Some might say that the movie had some clichés and that it got predictable in between, but all movies ever made on sports, internationally, are predictable. It's the presentation and the circumstances that are shown , make the film different from each other.
Even if the film was garnished with some fiction, if Mahavir Singh Phogat and his family underwent half of what is shown onscreen, it is extremely commendable.
Technically, the film is complimented by an excellent background score and some brilliant songs to make the blood rush through the vessels except for an Arijit Singh song. The film could not have been made shorter by those few minutes that were certainly not required in the form of that song.
It is not easy to make a film like Dangal, where minutest of details were given importance, be it the wrestling matches or the Haryanvi accent.
The excitement in the final matches could be compared to the cricket match of Lagaan .
The patriotic touch given to the script is just like the right amount of sweetness in your dessert. It is neither an overdose and nor it is less.
Overall, a brilliant film and definitely a must watch for the entire family.
My rating - 4.5/5
P.S - Though it is mandatory only in the beginning to stand for the national anthem but please do stand for the national anthem that is played in the film during the second half. Most people didn't stand for it as they thought it wasn't necessary. Respect for your country comes from your heart and not because the Supreme Court demands it.
