Wow! We are definitely a star driven country and hence most films which do not have big names to boast of go completely unnoticed.
In the last week I managed to see two such films. One of course was D - the prequel to Company and the other one Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi.
Hazaaron was brilliant in the way the characters were etched out while D was brilliant on many accounts.
We have all seen Company and know what the film is all about. D is the story of how Ajay Devgan's character in Company got to where he is.
How a simple guy who used to work as a mechanic in Dubai got to being the Don of Dubai.
As most of Ramu's gangster films, this one too uses real locations to enhance the story telling.
Randeep Hooda who plays the protagonist finds his way to being part of a gang and eventually killing everyone else and being the boss.
Lack of stars is the only thing that comes to mind for the reason of this film not doing wonders at the boxoffice.
Although not directed by RamGopal Varma himself, this film doesn't reflect that at all.
The mood of the film set by Company perhaps, has the same style of shots and edit patterns.
The most impressive and surprise packet of the film is definitely Randeep. Had seen him do a cameo in Darna Zaroori Hai and thought he was brilliant there too but in this one he completely takes the cake.
He completely engages you throughout the film and is impressive in totality. Be it his body language, his voice modulation or his look.
For those of you like me who did not bother seeing this film in the theatres, do catch it on television when you get the chance to.
