My CTRLS Data Centre India Review
I am from India and I was on shared hosting with byethost for more than three years. As on of my website's traffic increased to more than 40000 page views a day, I decided to go for a dedicated or VPS hosting. I searched for an Indian player and found CTRLS.in data center. Things they listed on their website that attracted me towards them are,
1- Tier 4 data center 99.95% uptime
2- Low latency
3- Personal dedicated account manager
4- 10 GB Backup space on different server to eliminate possibility of Database loss
5- Perimeter level firewall, spam & antivirus
6- Full security DDOS protection and IDS
7- 24X7 Direct Phone Support
So I made a payment for their dedicated server plan DSV1(Dual Core 5700, 4 GB DDR III RAM, 500 GB SATA, 100 GB Bandwidth, 1 IP Address, Free Setup!)
For this I made USD175/month(Approx) payment.
For Cpanel Unlimited I made a payment of USD33/month additional.
Immediately I got an Email from one person called himself the Account Manager for me and he apologized for the unavailability of the DSV1 plan so that I have to go for the DVS2 plan.
For DSV2 plan I need to pay another USD23 additionally every month. With little hesitation, I paid that amount and moved to DSV2.
Now I started getting emails from Account Manager and from Support.
The account manager was dealing all the payment and billing and the Support was setting up the server.
I moved one of my website to their server and I was satisfied with the speed of the server and the latency.
Now the problem started
I asked them for the 10GB backup space on different server raising a support ticket.
I got a reply from them mentioning, they setup a WHM backup for all my account on the server.
I asked them, what about the backup on another server?
They replied that for that I need to contact the Account manager
I asked them, why I should contact the Account Manager for 10Gb backup which is already mentioned on your Inclusion list?
There was no reply from them.
So, I sent another email to the account manager and got no reply from him for another 24 hours.
I sent another email and got a reply of "We will provide you with the same". A short and sweet answer.
After 4 days I got another email from the support " As soon as we get an approval from your Account Manager we will configure the backup"
I did not got any reply from them. And the support ticket was open more than 20 days
I made a fast decision, not to send them anymore Emails or support ticket. I bought a US Hosting for 1/3 of the price I paid to CTRLS data center.
What I am feeling now is I made the right decision and that I am in good hands. All my support tickets are answered quickly with accurate information.
I moved all my Wordpress sites to that new server in 2 days and all my sites are really fast accessing from India( I am from South India, too far from Mumbai)
The latency of CRTLS.in hosted site was 75ms and US Hosted site( California Data center) is 260ms.
I am very aware that this latency difference is not going to hurt my visitors as all of my sites are well optimized and I never faced any problem for the last 5 years hosting from outside India.
Indian hosting providers should learn from US providers how to administer particularly their support side. If anyone have a bad experience like me, please leave your comment below.
