Coorg-Mysore Trip
We had just moved to Bangalore and had not explored any of the nearby cities, so to start with we decided to go to Coorg. My husband's dad, had worked for setting up of the hotel Coorg International, and had all good things to say about the place, so we thought, we will go there and explore the region.
Tipu's palace
We started early on Saturday morning in a rented Indica. It was pleasant and cloudy that day. On our way, we saw Tipu’s summer palace and the place where Tipu Sultan had died. The summer palace was beautiful, surrounded by lush green gardens. It had old paintings and other artifacts about him and his empire. We then moved on and reached Mysore Palace. The palace is made exquisitely and every inch exerts great wealth and royalty. It has beautiful corridors, intricately carved ceilings, delicately etched doors and windows, designer flooring, innumerable antiques, and things owned by the king, which takes you back to his reign. The top most tomb of the palace is done in golden metal that shines bright in the sun, just like Tipu Sultan’s empire had shone once.
The road from Bangalore to Mysore was quite good and we did the journey in just 3 hours. But, the road after that, i.e., from Mysore to Coorg was under construction and was broken badly throughout. The road made us have doubts about the choice of our destination. It became hotter too as we proceeded and dusty path made it even worse. Finally, we reached our resort that we had booked from Bangalore itself.
The dam
Veerabhoomi resort had several small cottages, in green gardens. There was a small hill right next to it. The weather became pleasant again as we had lunch and got ready to explore the locality. We visited a nearby dam and though photography was prohibited there, decided to click a few quick snaps, but the local cop caught us and we had to give Rs.50 to shut his mouth.
Buddhist monastry
Next we went to a Buddhist Monastery. None of us had seen anything like that before, and we were absolutely enthralled by its beauty. Huge golden statues, bright colored wall paintings all around, gigantic dragons on the pillars in a high and big hall – awed us. There were innocent looking Tibetan monks all around and we got a snap clicked with one of the kids. He blushed cutely after looking at his picture on the digi-cam and ran away.
Medkeri - Abby falls
Next morning, we set out for Medkeri. The route was lined with huge groups of bamboo trees, coffee plantations, orange plantations, black pepper plantations, coconut trees, and more. Every now and then we saw women who wore their saris the opposite way (opposite to how we wear in north). We went to the Abbi falls. The enchanting route was filled with beauty to its brim. We also went to Coorg International for coffee and then started our trip back.
On our way we halted at the Brindawan gardens, ate some snacks there, clicked loads of pictures with the beautiful flowers and set out for Bangalore, all tired but happy.
