As in many other BPOs and call centers, there is cut-throat competition within the team members here. In the project I was working in, the calls were back to back, with a 10-second gap in between. You will only get the necessary information to work in a process during the training period. Once you hit production, don't expect your colleagues or your TL to help you one bit. If anything, your colleagues will only complain about you to the TL.
I was in their HR Payroll and Benefits process. Before joining the process, we had training. I, along with others, was busy taking down notes during the training, as by now, I understand that once we hit production, no one will help. However, the trainer said that everyone need not take down notes, and only one person needs to. So, accordingly, one lady volunteered to do the job. We had training for about a week, and most of it was dull material with a lot of facts and figures, as a payroll process would naturally be. But we were relaxed, as one of the colleagues was taking down the notes.
But a shock was in store for us. Once the training got over, we requested the lady for the notes. However, she suddenly expressed surprise and claimed that she had lost the training notes! She offered to write down the main points and give it to us. But this was a fraction of the actual training, and we had to hit the floor with absolutely nothing to go with.
As expected, other team members were hardly helpful, and when there was a need to refer to information, there was nothing. Moreover, there was utmost back-stabbing in this team. It was not long before team members started getting terminated for doing badly at the job. This is the height of incompetency on the part of the management. How can a person work in an organization with no training to go by, and in a place filled with back-stabbers?
Like most BPOs, Convergys, too, is a place where modern day slavery is practiced. It seems that countries like the US and Europe want their dull, boring, monotonous and difficult work to be done by people from third world countries, like in the years gone by, where they used to capture and bring in slaves from Africa. If you are unfortunate enough to take calls in a non-tech process, you will be overcome with back to back calls throughout the day, with hardly any training worth the name. I even have tinnitus due to these calls, which I will probably have to live with throughout life.
