Top-notch ramgopal varma stuff.

(i am a diehard fan of varma and this is yet another reason why I should be so!!!!!)

based on dawood and chhotta raajan clash and D-company, ''company'' is a must-watch (and that too for RGV fans).

this is again a very good film from varma corp after satya.

if satya dealt with lower-level view of underworld with the protagonist as mumbai-street-walker living in a small house, company (though it starts with vivek being so) shows the ''higher-level'' view of underworld where the gangsters arent like bhiku mhatre (excellent protrayal by bajpai, got tempted to mention here!!) but very suave and so-called ''high-class''

(and here devgan comes with a stunning protrayal as malik, a calm but, ruthless man). vivek as chandu, who grows in double-quick time, from down-trodden slums of mumbai, thanks to underworld, and then becomes the buddy of malik and after a misunderstanding both of them vow to kill the other.

vivek shows great class too..when he becomes a good friend of devgan and the during his clashes with malik after their breakup.

mohanlal (as srinivasan) comes up with yet another astounding and natural performance, award-winning portrayal(best supprting actor, I mean). it's time he gets wide apporval of his performances and not only in kerala.

the movie has some hard-hitting dialogues,

eg :

malik :''hamaare dhandhe mein ek galti ko maaph karna us se bhi badi galti hai''

and some very interesting one too like the one conversation given below.

malik to chandu's maa : ''Agar aap ek aur khilayegi, to pehle do jo mere andar gaye hai, unki keemat chali jaaygei''

saroja to chandu's maa after this : ''Samajne ki Koshish bhi mat kijiye''

&

malik to srinivasan : ''main chandu nahin hoo, officer''

and ditto srinivasan to malik : ''main bhi chandu nahin hoo!''

but, for the one interruption of isha item-number, the screenplay never sags.

even makrand deshpande deserves a mention for his slick narration.

overall, a very good movie, should be very closely rated (if not equal) to his earlier satya.
