The Great Indian Laughter challenge is a new format which brought about a revolution in the field of stand up comedy on Indian Television. With the format of participants trying in giving their all in displaying their unique sense of humour in order to win the hearts of the judges & audiences,the show helped carve a niche in Indian television.
Another show which has taken the concept of stand up comedy to the next level is Comedy Circus. Launched in the year 2007,it featured Archana Puran Singh,Johnny Lever and Satish Shah as the judges in the first season.The show was created by Optimystix Entertainment.
This show had groups of two celebrity participants coming together to present their act/skit in order to entertain the judges and the audiences. Their topics mainly consist of spoofs on films,celebrities and fellow contestants. The use of props and costumes for each act added to its subject and when combined with the talent of the respective actors,the more enhanced the humor seemed. Each act had the judges explaining their viewpoints and assigning scores,which was the criteria for selecting the best participants which would eventually lead them to the finale.
The first season had television actors such as Ali Asgar,Kiran Karmarkar,Swapnil Joshi,Urvashi Dholakia,Karishma Tanna,Varun Badola,Ketaki Dave compete against the other with their respective partners.
In all,the show had 16 seasons.The success of the first season enabled the producers to launch the following seasons,each having a unique tagline with the acts focusing in some way on it,some of which include:-

Each season had a different host.different judges(Archana Puran Singh remaining the constant judge throughout) and add on contestants from the previous seasons. Shruti Seth began hosting the show followed by Purbi Joshi,Jennifer Winget,Shweta Gulati,Mouni Roy,Roshni Chopra,Rashmi Desai,Anita Hassanandani,etc. The judges included Shekhar Suman,Rohit Shetty,Daler Mehndi,Tushar Kapoor,Sohail Khan and Arbaaz Khan. Cricketer Ajay Jadeja too was a judge in Comedy Circus 20-20.
One of the most prominent jodis in the show was Krushna Abhishek and Sudesh Lehri,whose performances were outstanding.Krushna being a very talented and confident actor,seemed to play any role with exceptional ease,specially those in which he dresses and acts as a woman.
Kapil Sharma,who needs no introduction,too was a participant in many of the seasons, being the winner in 5 of them.
Despite many of the acts having a few adult based jokes or themes,it could still be watched by the entire family.I used to enjoy watching the show and looked forward to each episode of many of the seasons.
