Colva Beach is situated in South Goa about 7 kms from Margao/Madgaon. Colva is to South Goa what Calangute is to North Goa. However , while Calangute has golden sands , colva beach is famous for its silver sand. The best way to reach Colva is to ride a bus from Madgaon bus stand. The journey takes about 25 minutes and costs Rs 5.
Your journey will culminate at the last stop being the Colva beach.Accomodation should not be a problem for any budget unless of course you are visitng during the Christmas / New Year . We stayed at a guesthouse bang opposite the Colva Beach and it cost us Rs 350 for a double bed room per night. You can start your day with a walk on the Colva Beach.
As you begin to walk towards northwards from Colva you shall reach the Majorda beach while if you go southwards you shall reach the Benaulim Beach. While taking your morning walk take care to see that your foot is not entangled in one of the several fisherman's nets lying on the Colva beach.
As far as food is concerned , there are several good restaurants for non veg food , however for vegetarains like me I would recommend Sagar Kinara restaurant which is about 100 metres from the beach.I would not recommend food at the beach shacks on Colva Beach because not only is the price higher but the quality of the food is also far from satisfactory.Besides in some shacks you are flatly told that no drinking water is available and you will have to purchase Bisleri or any other mineral water bottle.
If collecting sea shells is your hobby , then visit Colva Beach in early October.Thousands of sea shells lie at your feet. You can also indulage in watersports which are priced steeply. For instance a 10 minutes para sailing ride will se u back by Rs 600.There are also local fisherman who offer Dolphin watching trips by taking you in their boats out to the deep sea for rs 300.
However let me caution you that neither there are adquate safety equipments on the boat nor are the passengers insured in anyway , hence make the trip at your risk. If you do not wish to stay at Colva but just wish to visit it , I would recommend you to take the South Goa tour.Colva Beach is covered as the last stop in the south Goa tour. Colva Beach is worth a stay to enjoy nature by the seaside.
