This is a great-tasting dentifrice that has fluoride for cavity prevention, and also has Triclosan, to help prevent gingivitis, and it also has a plaque-reducing ingredient.
It tastes better than many of the other toothpaste's out there, and not too mediciney, which makes my dental hygienist and me happy.
I'm always interested in getting better dental health because at my age, meeting people, and not being able to brush after every meal, I start to feel sensitivity from going all day without a brushing.
Colgate Total helps that, and according to my Dental Hygienist, it doesn't contain the stringent ingredients that the whitening tootpastes contain.
This paste has a breath-freshener (at least the 'Advanced Fresh Gel' version), so you're using something to take away the 'bad breath' every time you brush.
It has the ADA seal of approval, so you know you're not being tested on. And there is a phone number to call for customer service 800-763-0246, in case you want more information on the ingredients you're brushing your teeth with.
It's not cheap- maybe one of the more expensive toothpastes out there. I bought mine at Duane Reade for $3.25, but I figure using it twice a day- morning and evening, I'm getting my money's worth. One 6-ounce tube will last me almost 5 weeks- I generally use a little more at night before the Sandman arrives.
It makes me happy, it makes my Dentist happy (...well at least I don't have to pay him for anything more than regular cleanings- so maybe he's not happy in the financial sense but I feel in my heart that he feels professionally bolstered by his success at this particular patient having good oral health...!), and I don't feel such trepidation when I visit him every six months.
