I had the mis-fortune to try the coffee when this joint was just opened a couple of years ago.Since I prefer my coffee strong in the South Indian style, ie. fresh filtered, I ordered just that off the menu.I was told by the snooty guy who took my order there would be some delay since the coffee has to be freshly prepared.
That was fine with me and I waited in anticipation for a freshly made Filter Coffee.Well, when the coffee finally arrived , I was surprised to get a cup of sun-tanned milk!without tasting it, I told the guy that it was a strong coffee that I had ordered. He hung around for a minute and then took the cup away. After twiddling my thumbs for some time I got a cup whose content was darker.
I took my first sip of the Coffee Beanz Sounth Indian Filter Coffee and surprises of surprises it was good ole Nescafe! That too in milk which had got scalded in over boiling. So there I was again beckoning the guy to my table and telling him that what I had in front of me was an instant coffee in badly boiled milk. He insisted that it was Filter Coffee.By the way, I am a serious coffee drinker.
5 cups in the morning at home, 4 cups during the day at the office and another 5 cups (black) at home in the evening.I get Arabica from Yercaud (near Salem), Arabica from Iddukki(in Kerala) and Robusta from Idukki to personally blend to the Arabica, when I add milk to my coffee.I get Colombian coffee whenever relatives come from abroad. My coffee is stored in the freezer to ensure it does not loose flavour.I have a 1/2 litre coffe filter at home and a genuine expresso machine in my office.
A coffee drinker cannot be more serious than that.So when that guy in Coffee Beanz told me that I had mistaken the purest coffee for Nescafe, I asked him what were the 2 basic types of coffee(Arabica for flavour, Robusta for strength). He started listing off Cappuchino, Kerala, Udipi, Expresso......I quietly left the tariff for that undrunk cup of "Fresh South Indian Coffee" realising it was no use going any further.and bid Coffee Beanz a last Farewell
