:{Khatti Chutney ~ Buttery Popcorn}:. Review on Chutney Popcorn

First of all, why is this movie called CHUTNEY POPCORN?

{since it had no popcorn and no chutney…How do these American desis come up with these freaky title}

This movie is very different from the regular bollywood style and even American Indian Flicks too!

The movie is based on a very “Taboo” Topic at least it is in Indian Society …

I recently went to the Indian store…surfin through the video library found this movie :: I was like “Never heard of this flick!” …. Title seems to be like another funny desi flick!

It was kinda funny movie ~ not like a Romantic Comedy…it was more like American Born Confused Desi funny with some issues.

What’s it about ?

Its about Reena’s life. She is very different from other Desis. She is pretty “tomboyish”. She doesn’t know anything about her Indian Background and her mother is frustrated with her. Cause she doesn’t get married – doesn’t date any Indian Guys. And she also has a sister, who is married to a White Guy.

Who seems to be more Indian than Reena. Reena’s Sister is very happily married. But Reena’s Sister finds out that she can’t conceive. Which Broke her heart, and Reena realizes that she has never done anything for her family…so she finally decides to give the gift of life to her sister. Reena will have baby for her sister !

But wait….what’s so Taboo about that?

Oh did I forget to mention, that Reena is a Dyke a.k.a Lesbian with a White Girlfriend (Jill Hennessy).

So now with this… mom has a problem her gay daughter having sister’s baby.

Wait Poor Nina’s problems with this gift doesn’t stop there : Suddenly, the sister doesn’t even want the baby either….wait there’s more…Reena’s girlfriend doesn’t even want it…where does poor Pregnant Lesbian Reena goes?

Reena does give birth to a beautiful Baby Girl ( I think!- I don’t remember) ~ But what does she do with it…nobody seems to want it…?

{EVALUATION}

Movie is directed by ( I have no idea who she is) Nisha Ganatra : I guess I can say that she directed the movie pretty well but her acting is bad … and she doesn’t look attractive but I guess she directed it so she must star in it.

Next : The mother : Madhur Jaffrey (haha! She has my brother’s name) Anyways, She acts well as a very worried mother.

Next : The Sister : Sakina Jaffrey – She is acts ok too ( I saw her on Third Watch) ~ She portrays of a jealous, caring, annoyed person good too.

Next : The Girlfriend : Jill Hennessy (remember her from Crossing Jordan {wait I might have the wrong name} ) – She is acts ok too as a very jealous & terrified girlfriend.

Overall, Movie is pretty different which has the guts to show “a Taboo” Topic and even scenes…Its kinda funny, sad, “eee”, “message getting across” kinda type movie!

Does that cover it all…. I guess

~~ if you wanna watch something very daring and definitely different you could watch this

~~But if you are like “ish… this movie is about lesbians eww” …then I guess there is a BIG NO NO on ur face right now !
