Choice between money and mind...

I don't know where I read this phrase. It says:

If you are following someone else's footsteps,

You are not leaving your own footprints behind.

It is such an inspiring phrase. If I am doing what others have done, then I am not setting example for myself. I blindly follow others and do what they have done. I never knew what I want to be.

My mind said to me to be what I craved for. But my society, my family wanted to have me as they want.

I am saying this all just to mean that every person wants to be something. They have a profession in mind already. They also thrive to achieve it. But sometimes they forget the hardwork involved behind their profession. They also start caring about the money factor. Then comes in other thoughts of parents, wife, children, friends, etc. You try to see them happy and then go all out to earn more. In all these moral hassle, you leave your dreams behind. You did not achieve your goals. You did not become a doctor just because your family could not afford the price and time. And now you are some Sales Executive or Customer Associate in some office earning a lucrative 8000 bucks.

Friends, I am not here to discourage all you people. Many do achieve their goals, but many do not. What is the reason behind it? I will take you to a journey inside the career life of someone you know very well. Yes, that's me. I will tell you how my life changed completely and where it's heading towards. I will use some real life experiences and some short stories to explain you how to achieve your goals. So, let's start.

  1. Hidden Talents

I knew a friend who was very good in philosophy. He gave some good phrases to me. But he had a problem. His voice was very rough. He could not speak fluently, even though his English was very good. He wanted to become an orator. With that bad voice no one can expect him to accomplish that goal. He tried very hard, but failed. But he then got a job as a cartoon dubbing actor. Because his voice was unique and different, he gave his voice to cartoon characters.

So, what I mean is that take most use of your talents. Never think you are inferior. Every person is unique and God has given everyone a talent. You just have to find it and work on it.

If you can write few lines of poem, you can become a poet. If you can sing, you can become a singer. If you bang on your desk and create music, you can become a tabla player. Find your talents and polish it. You can have it as your career. Isn't it?

Summary: Use your talents in the right way to shape your career.

2) Know the hardwork involved

I once suddenly said to my mom that I want to become a Biotechnology Engineer. My mom just looked at me and after a few moments said, ''OK'', in a very low voice.

She did not understand a word what I said, and neither did I. Yes, I did not what that meant, but I still wanted to become that sort of complicated stuff. But when I discovered the hardwork behind the course and profession involved, I just turned my back because I did not want so much hardwork.

So, it is simple. If you chosen a career option, discover all the work involved. Know about the entrance process, future prospects and career options in that field. If it is lucrative to you and you are ready for it, then there is no other reason you should not choose that career.

Summary: Discover your career in details to every point and then go for it.

3) Should money matter?

When I finished my SSC, I took up commerce and had already planned to be an MBA. I was in the frame of mind that MBAs earn more. And yes, they do.

But this was not I want to be. I was very creative and loved art. Therefore, I took up a course in Web Designing. But suddenly a slump came in and I wasn't paid as much I was paid earlier. So, I headed back to MBA and now am enrolled in University of Liverpool, UK.

I just mean to say that money does matter. That is why we work. Isn't it? If someone asks you to work for free, would you do it, even though it is a good job? Most of you would say a big NO. Yes, this is right. The people who said NO have brains and are cunning.

One should not waste their talent, time and money on something useless. They should better have them all which will benefit them and shape their future.

Summary: Time is important. Do not waste them on something useless.

4) I want to become a this or that, but I don't have money

Nowadays, money should not be your constraint and hamper your career prospect. There are many banks giving away Educational Loans.

I too myself have taken a loan of Rs.11 Lakh for my MBA in UK. So, money should not be a barrier to you.

Just be focus on what you want to be. Money will definitely come.

Summary: Avail of loans for your studies.

5) You are not living just for yourself

This is true. You were first dependent on your parents, and time will come when they will depend on you. You will also be having your own family. So, doing something not valuable will hamper your whole family.

Some people do not think of them. But folks, wake up. Enough of philosophical thoughts. This is life, and it is very harsh.

Choose a career that will make your family and yourself financially secure.

Summary: Use your talents to earn money, enough for you and your family.

So, I have listed five points of wisdom that will help you choose a career. Let me have them all quickly for you:

1) Find your hidden talents and get ready to polish them up.

2) Your talents can give you a very good career, but you also be aware of the hardwork involved. I do not mean to say that you shy away from hardwork. But do something within your capacity.

3) Your talent will give you a career. But can your career give you money? Money is important.

4) If you have finished the first three steps, but still have some problems like financial support, you can always find a solution. There should be no barrier between you and your career.

5) You should choose a career that is beneficial to everyone around you, who depends on you and care for you.

So, that's it. These are my 5 points of choosing a career. I have used them in my life. This is how the five points came to effect in my career:

I had the talent of creativity and good thinking. I discovered these talents and decided to become a Graphic Artist. But my family was going through financial crisis at that moment. I had to borrow money to complete this course. But the Web Designing field slumped badly and nobody was paying me well. My father was the only earning member in my family of 5. My salary from Web Designing were peanuts in front of the expenditures. Then I have to change my career and become an MBA. And that is what I am doing.

Friends, I have given you a picture of real life and not a pleasant picture of dreams. Dreams do get fulfilled but are never of good to many.

So, I would advice all my readers who are looking for a career that choose a path that will bring in happiness to you and your family.

Nowadays, there are many rewarding career in the world. Just follow my 5 points to choose one. You will definitely succeed.

And more importantly, Move with the time. Don't ever lag behind. Always believe in yourself. Everything's possible.

I wish you luck in choosing a career for yourself.

Bye then people. Send in your comments and suggestions. I would try to answer them all.

Ciao!
