'A best friend is one who loves you for who you are - not for what you are'
An old line but true nevertheless. He/she stands besides you when you are lonely, depressed and need support and doesnt demand anything and gives you space to enjoy your success and happiness. Idealistic? don't think so - there are lots of people who are loyal, sincere and genuine friends.
There are times in your life when you want to show your appreciation for the friendship he/she has given you.When you want him/her to know how much you value the gift of his/her friendship. A gift - straight from the heart, is the best thing you can give:
1. Anything Handmade:
To show how special he/she is. To let them know that, although it might not be the neatest looking thing inthe world, you wanted to give something which you created yourself, taking out time from your work/studies, etc. To contribute as much of yourself as you could.
Examples: stained glass painting, a cross-stitch wall hanging, a candle(for the real creative ones)
Definitely a card!
2.Prerecorded CD/cassete of his/her fav songs:
You are the best person to know his/her favourite songs, songs he/she can listen to millions of times! so why not record a cd of most of these songs? They wouldnt have to keep changing the music and it lets them know that you are aware of their favourites and its something only friends who are close to them will know!
3. A personalised Tshirt:
A plain white t-shirt with messages on the back from their best friend/s. He/she will be sporting the evidence of your affection all the time. My best friend is out of the country and she sleeps in the tshirt my other friend and I gave her. She says it gives her a sense of security and anyways, what we wrote was not exactly for the public eyes(haha). If you dont wanna write something, these days there are loads of shops who put snaps on the tshirt for you - maybe your and her/his snap, his/her fav celeb with a witty line, etc
4.Collage:
One of my most fav gifts to give and to recieve! Make a collage of all your and her/his snaps. Even a snapbook with a couple of lines bout the snap - memories are always cherished - and having them all in the same place, you can be sure they'll always keep it with them!
5. Purchases:
Ofcourse there will be times when you just dont have the time to sit and do something so creative or timeconsuming. So what do you buy for them?
A stuffed toy, but make sure its something original - something different,
A piece of jewellery: try to think of her fav outfit and coordinate with that. if you are a guy buying for a girl, try to give something which she can always wear, which will always be there with her!
A mug/photo stand/wall hanging
Try to wrap these gifts in as distinct a way as you can - for example, like a toffee, putting flowers and hearts on the paper, etc.
But most of all, remember one thing - cliched but always true and cherished:
Its the thought that counts - the very fact that you want to give something, that you are thinking of her/him, makes the person feel treasured!
