Windows . it can be defined just as one of the most popular softwares of'Mr
Gate's' MICROSOFT. But, Windows is much much more than just another software,
It's an OS. an Operating System.
In Technical terms( well not so technical) OS may be defined as the software Interface between the Hardware and the User. So the basic job of the OS is to let User(Thats you *). Interact with the hardware(Say Hard disc, CD, Floppy etc ).through an Interface(The Icons you get for Hard disc, Cd's and Floppy). It all started with DOS(Disc Operating System). our Plain old command prompt is just the left over of the good ol' DOS. Then For the first time . Microsoft introduced the first ever version of windows(3.11).n then Came Windows 95.Windows 98. Windows NT.Windows Me.Windows 2000.Windows Xp.Windows 2002.( NOT IN THAT EXACT ORDER
)
Tell you what. as we all have different system specifications, memory, usage
of out PC. So There is a different Window's Version for each one of us. So Lemme
just give you an Idea:
1) Windows 95
If you own a small cyber cafe, a small office or need a PC just for data entry or some other light work, then why spend money, a decent Pc with 32 MB or more RAM with Windows 95 can do the Trick. As Windows 95 Required very less Space(hard disc) n needs little RAM, its a good option(Trust me.it can save you a great deal of money). Mind you the Multimedia support is not good.(eg no DVD).the GUI( Graphical User Interface) and colors are sub - standard. only FAT 16 Hard disk is supported. .means less disc utilization.
2) Windows 98(SE)
For Basic Home needs like Internet, , Movies, light games. Windows 98( Second Edition) is good enough. It has better GUI.and DVD Support. It is more stable than Windows 95.but requires little more Resources as compared to Windows 95.( I would suggest at least 64 MB RAM, Pentium Processor, 2 Gb HDD n rest u decide. Suports both FAT 16 and FAT 32.resulting in better hard disc utilization.
3) Windows NT(New Technology)
Though it uses a totally different disc format .called NTFS.(NT FILE SYSTEM). This one is more stable that both Windows 98 and Windows 95. But It's system requirements is on higher side.More Ram. better performance. But 128 MB RAM is minimum with a processor with at least 700 MHz of clock speed
4) Windows 2000
An improved and more colorful
version of Windows NT. very stable.but 256 MB RAM is a must for decent performance.
5) Windows Me
This was Microsoft's first step to think and do something
out of the box. All of the other versions of Windows so far based on DOS
shell.you can put it like this. You were using a DOS OS. with a Colororful
GUI. But me had a different Core.hence More stable and better GUI.(** YOUR
BEST BET **)
6) Windows Xp
Oh La La! now you combine all the good
features of all of the above versions, minus all the blue screens, a true multimedia
OS and Write core from scratch.now what will you get? Wow. u guessed it.
WINDOWS Xp. Its a True EYE CANDY.WOW is the word. It supports almost all the
devices.(Had their Drivers INBUILT) Full multimedia Support and one thing that
was missing till now.MULTITASKING. It means you can work on two or more applications
at the same time without worrying bout those Blue screens. It is the most stable
OS till now, If you are a hardcore gamer, movie freak or use any multimedia
application.this is for you. Supports all the file system FAT 16, Fat 32 and
NTFS. Very Secure.in built Firewall gives you total protection from hackers.
and the list goes on n on. BUT. It requires . at least a P - III with at
least 128 or More RAM . More Ram. better performance. ok?
now. We have Linux.which is practically Virus Proff.MAC OS.UNIX.BeOS.SOLARIS.n
others.so why windows? well. If you dont want to remember a command line
for every thing.or in short if your are not a nerd.and just want to enjoy
the computing experience.then windows is what u need. But if you were born
with Silver / Golden / Platinum spoon in your mouth. go for MAC OS.(Lucky A) . If you are geek/ nerd and love to type commands. Here. LINUX is for you.( Linux 7 and above have decent GUI and they are user friendly too.but not more than windows ) If you are adventurous enough.go and try others. My way of doing this is. Install other OS with Windows as Promary OS( DUAL/ MULTI OS BOOT) .(PS I've tried Linux and BeOS on my PC*) But for value for money, user Friendly, Reliability, Good GUI and more. My Money was.is.and Will be on WINDOWS.
So, Which OS you wanna get NOW?
