It is indeed personal as requirement of household appliances are generally decided by ladies who manage the kitchen normally. I know of some people who have bought most of the appliances and kept it idle as either they are not well conversant with the operation or they do not require it. Just becasue the neightbout has got the item we have also bought it - attitude. So my advice to would be owners of such applianes is that they should buy an item only if they are confident of using it. I have come across families who use washing machine only on sundays that too to wash bed linen. How silly they are? Some people use microwave oven to melt the frozen foods.
Coming to Microwave oven, I am of the opinion that it is not a must for the kitchen but if you can spare some money you can go for it. But this purchase can be the last of the wish list, after buying your fridge, washing machine, juicer, rice cooker etc.
Microwaves use only electricity and comsumption can be high as the wattage is high. I think one should go for the convection type thought it is costlier than the grill oven. In convection ovens the heating shall be equally from all sides so the food get cooked equally from all sides. Browning for baking and frying shall be uniform. Nowadays many people buy convection type ovens.
One an go for a size of not less than 25ltrs which wil support the whole family. Depending on the brand, the price varies. Most of the companies supply a free starter kit also with the oven. An expert respresentative from the company/dealer shall visit your house and teach you how to go about cooking in microwave ovens. You know you can even make a cup of tea in a microwave.
Companies/important dealers do conduct cookery classes using microwave ovens and I suggest before anyone buys it, please go and watch the cookery show to understand more about it. It is definitely easier, fast and convenient to cook the whole food for a family in a microwave oven than the conventional way. Using a microwave your kitchen will remain neat and clean.
