My review might be helpful to those people who those living in Mumbai.
I am a satisfied subscriber to In Cable's internet services since November 2001.
Now before actually going for it, I was wondering if I should go for In Cable, Win Cable, Or BSES. I decided to check out on the cyber cafes operating near Bandra station. Most of them subscribed to In cable and shared a common opinion that, the service is ok. Out of the many, only one had to say that the service is bull-shit. Yes, I still remember, these were the guy's very words. After all the service, be it good or be it bad on an average, there is one unhappy customer at least. Asked a few people about the difference between In Cable and Win Cable, I came to know that with the former, the service is a bit slower than the competition, but their service is down rarely and when it is down, its restored soon. As far as Win Cable goes, I found that it is comparitively faster and one can notice that. I was impressed. But when the people came to the fact that the service goes down often and exists for anything between 3-15days, I thought of having In Cable as the better option as even the subscription rates were cheaper.
And there was BSES too with its Broadband services. Pretty impressive, but as of that time, I want to get something cheap enough as I'm studying at the moment having a not so high income and want to keep in touch with my parents and brother in Dubai through chat and my dialup was at its worst always cutting off often. With cable net, I cut off a huge chunk of my phone bills too.
With BSES, there was an installation fee of Rs.4500/- and Rs.990/- per month thereafter
As far as In Cable goes, one has to pay Rs.4000/- installation and Rs.788/- monthly (Taxes incl.)
Win Cable required a sum of Rs.3500/- installation and something over Rs.1000/- monthly.... their 3 months scheme worked out to be a bit cheaper.
I went in for In Cable and got the connection within the promised 14 days period. They stuck to their word there. So FINALLY I was connected 24 hour long. As far as I've noticed, the service is rarely down and when it is, all I have to do is to go and do some other work and come back in 20 minutes and there, its online again. Even in cases of problems and modem unexpectedly going offline, the staff are prompt at their services and Extremely Courteous. I must tell you that even repeated calls do not bug them or get them aggressive. Now speed wise, I can only compare it to a Good Dialup. But I find it worth price wise and I may soon go in for their yearly scheme which works out to some Rs.7000/- which makes more sense. I give full praise to In cable as the service is rarely down and courteously restored in situations when it is.
As for Win cable, you can read reviews about them and form an image of them for yourself. People hate them and their services. The staff are also said to be most uncourteous and rude at times.
And BSES? what can I say? They had this offer once ... Rs.15,000/- for 3 years of unlimited access installation inclusive. A friend living close to me went for the scheme. That was in March Approx. Believe it or not, after constant follow ups and headaches, he was relieved to get his wire in the beginning of Jan and got the thing connected a week or 2 after that. The service these people offer is ok. And the net? What can I say? When they are ok ... ie. normal, the net is something compared to In Cable Itself, or even a bit slower as of now... and when you really get the speed at certain times, I couldnt believe, I was getting Download speeds of 100 kbps!!!! 1 MB file I uploaded and downloaded in 10 secs each!!!. But this being because the bandwidth is uncontrolled there and that you get unlimited speed when there are less users connected but suffer during peak timings, wheras In cable has a constant speed all the time and has control over it.
These were my experiences with In Cable Services and BSES, now its upto you to understand and choose the right service for yourself. One more thing, In Cable is older in this field and has a heavier clientage despite of which their services are fine. BSES are still new to internet and I've seen that the services are slightly deteriorating.
And as for WIN CABLE take my sincere advice, forget it. It has only tears in store for you.
I prefer to Stick to In Cable Services.
