Bollywood is trying to become too Hollywood’ish’,these days.We have seen some really stylish thrillers in the recent past, such as ”Kaante”,”Plan” or ”Musafir”.Now comes another film which has a very international look and other than the songs, everything else looks anything but Indian. The film I`m talking about is ”Chocolate”.This film was announced at the IIFA Awards 2005 and since then people have lots of expectations from this film but what they had forgotten was that chocolate is a sinful sweet and the film,”Chocolate” is also as sinful.Yes guys, watching this film is a sin because it`s a huge disappointment!

Spice Entertainment`s. ”Chocolate”,directed by Vivek Agnihotri stars Anil Kapoor,Suniel Shetty,Irrfan Khan,Emraan Hashmi,Arshad Warsi,Tanushree Dutta and Sushma Reddy (introducing). This film has been made by the makers who previously made romantic (yet flop) films such as ”Kaun Hai Jo Sapnon Mein Aaya” and ”Shukriya”.This time, they have attempted to make a completely different film that falls into the thriller genre but unfortunately this film is also as poor as their previous films.

”Chocolate” is a film set in London,2005. Krishna (Anil Kapoor) is a criminal lawyer by profession who knows very well how to make people agree on his views. He is strong headed, he is a bit crazy but he is still quite cool. Then, there is Monsoon (Sushma Reddy),Krishna`s assistant who is a journalist and writes news about India and Indians. One day,she writes down a news about two Indian criminals, who are staying in London. The two criminals are PP (Irrfan Khan) and Sim (Tanushree Dutta). Both are arrested by the police of London, after Monsoon discloses their crimes, through her newspaper. The police thinks that both of them are terrorists belonging to the famous “Al-Qaeeda” group of the Talibans. When Monsoon interacts with both of them, she finds out that they are not such bad people and that they deserve to be released from the jail.Monsoon feels that she needs to help the both and for this matter she asks Krishna to take on their case and help them get out of jail.Meanwhile,in their loneliness,PP and Sim go into a flashback, remembering their good days with their good friends, who are not with them, anymore.Sim used to be a bar dance and PP was an artist and an aspiring musician. Both of them belonged to a group of five members who wished to become big musicians. The other three members of the group were-Rocker (Suniel Shetty) who used to love Sim,Devaa (Emraan Hashmi),who dreamt of becoming the greatest musician of the world and music was his passion and obsession and finally there was Tuby (Arshad Warsi) a fun-loving guy who always used to be in a mood of joking. These five friends never knew what the future had in store for them. One event made them turn into criminals and due to their crimes, some of them died and they all got separated from each other.

Anil Kapoor as Krishna is fine but he overacts at places, despite being such a seasoned and senior actor.Maybe,it`s not his fault but the director`s fault.Suniel Shetty also fails to impress and he is a miscast in the role of a member of a group of five, because alogn with young actors like Tanushree and Emraan Hashmi, etc. there should have been a younger guy,not a senior actor like Suniel Shetty.Irrfan Khan is impressive and manages to give a wonderful performance, throughout the film.Emraan Hashmi doesn`t get much to do,though he was being given more publicity through the promos of the film, than any other actor of this movie.Arshad Warsi overacts this time and doesn`t manage to make you laugh as he did,in some of his previous films.

Tanushree Dutta has shown improvement over her previous performance in her recently released debut film and the actress has also worn quite revealing clothes, too,so family audiences, think before watching the film.Sushma Reddy,a former VJ and actress Sameera Reddy`s sister makes her debut with this film but she does not get a meaty role, still she is fine in whatever little she has done in the film and surprise, surprise, even she shows her cleavage in a scene, which might just shock the viewers.

Vivek Agnihotri fails to make a film that would grip the attention of the viewers. The film is too confusing and dull for the audiences to understand, though it is quite unpredictable,at times. The first half is quite boring but there are some better moments in the second half, where the story progresses a bit.The introduction of the characters of Devaa,Tubby and Rocker is interesting and their scenes are also fun to watch,at times but after they get into crime, the film gets boring as you get to see some illogical crime scenes, which are a copy of several English films, like “Matrix”,etc. The climax,is unpredictable which though comes as a surprise, but it also comes as a disappointment.Screenplay is weak. What makes Monsoon think that PP and Sim should not be behind the bars,is not well justified and the biggest back draw is that the reason for the five friends getting into crimes, is also not justified,at all.It just seems that the director just wanted to add some Hollywoodish action scenes and that is why he made his characters turn into criminals.Cinematography is wonderful and the locales of London have been captured beautifully. The film looks very stylized and that`s a plus point. Background Music is also good.Editing is poor because the film is a drag throughout and very slow, too which might result in testing the viewers` patience.Dialogues are a bit odd and weird.Pritam`s music is not as good,as his previous works.”Halka Halka Sa Yeh Nasha”,is picturised beautifully though, still it is anything but exciting.”Jhuki Jhuki Sajde Main Jhuki Jhuki”,picturised on the item girl Mumait Khan (who has previously performed on “Dekh Le” from Munnabhai MBBS and several other item numbers) is well choreographed.”Mummy Ko Nahin Hai Pata” (strange lyrics!) picturised on Tanushree Dutta is going to be liked by the masses.

On the whole,”Chocolate” is a very avoidable film, which has no entertainment but only disappointment to offer to the vierwes. It`s better if you stay away from this boring, slow and dull film.At the box-office,the film might get a good opening due to its good publicity but afterwards the box office collections will definitely start falling.
