I had to admit my father to Chinmaya Mission Hospital some 7 months back. He was having some serious infection due to bronchitis and he was finding it difficult to breath.
Day One, Morning CMH Indira Nagar: Father was admitted to CMH. He was diagnosed by a doctor and was referred to Narayana Hrudayalaya.
Day One, Afternoon Narayana Hrudayalaya Indira Nagar: As a routine, NH team performs all clinical lab tests and ECG. They find some variation on heart rate. Doctor asks me consent to do Angiogram. I have informed the doctor earlier that father was having a congenital condition where heart is having a slight variation in heart rate. Despite this, the doctor again asks me to admit him for Angiogram.
I immediately called my fathers family physician and cardio specialist to explain my fathers condition to this doctor.
Our Doctor calls the Narayana Hrudayalaya doc, and explains him thoroughly in fro=nt of us family members.
It seems the Doctor is convinced. He cancels the plkan for angiogram, but tells this. "At any part of the diagbnosis, we might want to submit him for an emergency Cardiac procedure, or Angiogram, and we might ask for your signature".
Again I tried to convince him, but the stubborn doctor states that he needs the patient to undergo Angiogram.
Second Day Morning: My father, who's in ICU feels some strange behaviour from nurses. They want him to get prepared for surgery. He gets surprised and shocked. The dioctor comes and informs him that he has had an attack yesterday, so they wants him to undergo an angioplasty and installation of a stent.
Luckily, my brother gets in to the ICU for a routine early morning visit. My father informs him that he is being taken for angiogram .
My brother called us everyone to the hospital, and we came in and meet the doctor again to cancel the same.
We tried to discharge him from the hospital, as his condition was only deteriorating. Nothing was being done for his respiratory challenges.
Because of opposition from doctors, we could only discharge him after 3 days. These 3 days, the doctors again attempted to do angiogram 2 times without our consent.
Everyday, my father was being taken out in a cheap dusty ambulance to a nearby clinic to do CT Scan.
My Father went through severe stress and infections in this ICU(Second floor, NH, Indira Nagar).
We had to pay a hefty bill. despite this, my father underwent treatment for depression for 6 months.
NEVER DEPEND ON NARAYANA HRUDAYALAYA. After availability of new hospitals in Bangalore, they have no business or patients. Depend on Manipal or St. Johns hoispital. There are small but really good hospitals like AbhayaHastha, IndiraNagar which is a very patient friendly hospital. Dont ever go to NH. NH is a BUTCHER SHOP.
