China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai Just to add here that this review was written before this place opened. Since then they have already made some changes-for ex. its now officially called Global Fusion and its Rs.804/-per person.
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai There's a new China Gate about to be opened on Linking Road Bandra Mumbai at LINK Square the new Mall that houses Croma in the basement.
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai
in its spanking new avatar is about to be unveiled by end August 2008.
How do I know?
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai Inside Story: Well, We were the lucky few to have been invited for the soft launch and had the privilege to sample their fare before it gets thrown open to the hoi polloi.
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai Unique Features: What strikes you as you enter the top floor of the mall, is the high ceilings and the soft gurgle of water spewing out of the two turtles sitting in the artificial pond of running water. Ambling graciously like the Chinese users, are the goldfish in this water.
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai Japanese Cuisine: The first sight of food on the Japanese Cold Sushi counter can make you drool. In tiny ceramic globules are displayed a variety of colorful sushi preparations. Julienned carrot, cabbage, stuffed with a spoonful of rice topped with a shrimp or squid or plumelike Prawn.
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai Morsels: Tiny morsels that look so appetizing that you'd want to just pop one into your mouth off the iced base on which they are displayed. And the imposing and towering Japanese Chef is bending over himself to accommodate you and your preference of vegetarian or aquarium. Yes, fish is more prominent than anything else.
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai Fishy smell because of the raw fish :Too bad, I don't quite savvy the Japanese style of bland nearly raw fish spooled into a leafy green cone stuffed with a spoonful of rice. Fine Dining is dammed. Give me a chicken Biryani any day and I'd rather lick my fingers than try my hand at those twinkling chopsticks.
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai Global Fusion Cuisine Experience: But for those into the art of experimenting with global fusion food, this is the place for you. Incidentally, it's not just China Gate, its actually Global Fusion. It also has a Red Box, an open-air barbecue (akin to their Caravan Serai) as well as a walk in Food Court.
The Invitation Card actually read "The Nouvelle Food Republic' which describes this entire foodie paradise.
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai MOMOs Lovely as they should be:They also have a live dim sum cum wanton section with a difference - It's more Chinese, Korean, Cantonese, Oriental, Mongolian for me to describe it as anyone form of cooking. Steaming hot dim sums in cane baskets serve up a delightful mouthful of melt in your mouth titbits of lamb, crab meat, squid, prawns, and some unmentionables.
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai Cause lets Drink! A well-stocked wine section to lubricate your parched throats with a choice of Indian, imported wines, beer, whiskey, cognac, rum, gin and vodka to name just a few. Cocktails and mocktails for the fancy.
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai Desserts: A gracious dessert area for the after effects round up a complete gastronomic tour de force. With a variety of china grass in different flavors, cakes, gateaux, jellies, puddings, and Baskin Robbins' ice creams.
For folks like me, who prefer a basic dinner to the fancy tantalizing teasers of spoonful bites, there is a proper array of chef dishes arranged like a buffet with proper wholesome food (mostly Chinese and continental-Sorry, No Indian) So no roti, for me. Frankly never quite felt like having had a meal until I have at least one roti.
China Gate - Bandra - Mumbai Cost for one: What does all this set you back by..?
From what I gathered, they propose to launch this grand eatery with an introductory Rs.750/- per person for all that you can stomach from this entire jamboree. Now, if this is indeed true, then trust me, you are in for a treat - its gonna be a steal and a delight to your taste buds.
This place is gonna rock - and how!
All the best and keep me posted on your experience here.
Till then
Chow Chow!
Regards
Raja
