The film takes us to the realistic world of girls dancing in the bars ! the story is about the girls of one such bar named chandni bar ! ''mumtaz'' played by tabu is a simple innocent girl who loses her parents in riots and is forced to come to bombay accompanied by her mamu ! in order to survive the mamu's relative suggests that mumtaz should become a dancer at chandni bar to entertain the male customers ! mumtaz is forced into the profession ! suddenly this innocent girl is surrounded by women who are prone to dirty talking and laugh and joke in a filthy manner ! mamu obviously is living happily on mumtaz's earning !mumtaz is even raped by her mamu !
Slowly and steadily mumtaz is taught all the seductive ways and the way with men there and becomes one of them !on one such occassion she meets potiya(acorrupt politicains right hand ) 'atul kulkarni who falls head over heels for her and proposes marriage ! to get out of the hell mumtaz marries potiya and gives birth to two kids ! mumtaz decides that her kids will not live life the way she had and is doing her best to educate them but luck does not favour her ' potiya dies ' and because of unfavourable circumstanes she is forced to retrieve to her old life ! the end result 'her son is just another potiya and her daughter continues to be a dance bar girl !
this true story leaves you thinking about the lives of these girls who live under so much pressure and
misery ! the clothing ' the script the dialogues and lots of abusive language make the backdrop even more real ! tabu's performance leaves one speecless ! the acting done by the other other bar girls is also marvellous ! atul kulkarni does justice to his role ! overall a must see !
