The first time I heard about Chanda Ki Doli, I was dying to get it. I wanted to download it but I could not find any sites to download it from. Yeah, you may be thinking ‘there are so many downloading sites; surely there must be some place to download it.’ I thought so myself but still no luck. Then, one of my friends had bought the CD in America and she lent it to me. Finally, after two months of searching for the album I got it. If I could have bought it in Trinidad I would. Unfortunately, we don’t get much pop albums from singers like Sonu Nigam etc.

Ok, about this album. Sounds like a really romantic album to me. The songs are composed by Sonuji himself (where did he get inspiration to do such a thing?). Lyrics are by Nusrat Badr. Anyways, here’s my views on this album.

The very first track and about the best and longest song in the album is Chanda Ki Doli. The song starts up with Sonu singing a few lines and then a piano(I think), shehnai and sitar intro. This is a wonderful song to play at your wedding; actually it is a wedding song.

Sonu seems to have used a lot of instruments in this song. He sounds really sweet and he sings with a lot of passion and feelings. My favorite part: ek chaand jaise tharon ke dil mein pale, yeh pyar aise kile. At some points, especially that line, he sounds as though he is forcing back tears. Ok tell me I’ve got a wild imagination or I’m just senti-mental.

Rafta-Rafta Nazar is the next track in the album. This one sounds like a great dance song, it’s pretty vibrant and it’s bound to get you on your feet, if the people around won’t think you’re crazy. It’s got a lot of tabla beats and it sounds like a Punjabi-Bhangra but with more bhangra beats. Reminds me of Shava Pardesiyo (Kash Aap Hamare Hote).

At first I didn’t really like this song much, ah lemme rephrase myself, I didn’t pay much attention to this song but after listening to this album for two months it sort of grew a bit more on me. What caught my attention was the musical interval between the 1st and 2nd verses. It’s got a nice Classical flavour to it and yeah that’s my favorite part of the song.

Sonu sounds really enthusiastic and well into this song; his voice blends wonderfully with the music.

Next is Pagal Hoon Main. if you’re trying to win the heart of someone, this would be a nice one to play. This one’s got a nice piano intro followed by drums. My favorite lines are: pagal hoon main, yah deewana, chahe kahe, tu begana, deewana terey pyar mein…

I don’t really know how to express my views about this song. It’s a sweet song and Sonu sounds really good but I don’t think it’s as good as some of the other songs, and sometimes I just love this song, because Sonu is sounding really sweet. (You guys must be tired of hearing me say that but I just can’t say it enough; actually I think it’s an understatement.)

Mujhe Tumse Milke is the 4th track in the album. Sonu speaks the intro which is my favorite part of the song. It’s a sweet love song and I really like this one a lot. I’d say it’s about another of the best songs in the album. The piano plays a huge part in this song making it seem like a magical land where only love exists.

kutch baatein, unkahi, dil mein dabi reh jaati hain

jo kabhi tapish, kabhi khalish aur kabhi ghutan bankar

hamesha asa taati hain

isiliye jo kehna hain keh do warna

jhankahi yaadein bankar tamam umra tumhara peetcha karegi

Apart from Chale Aao, Tu is the sweetest, cutest and most beautiful love song in this album. The only to describe the way Sonu souns is cute, adorable and sweet. My favorite line: raathon ke kajal se tharon ke aanchal se tu, me love you tu. He sounds especially cute and sweet when he says “me love you tu''

Chale Aao is my favorite song in this whole album. This song puts me into a trance and all I can hear or think about is this song and how beautiful Sonu’s sounding. I think everything is wonderful in the song. Perfect, no flaws. The music blends in wonderfully with Sonu’s voice and he sounds simply beautiful.

surli si koi sit hi, wani ni bali mithi, purane rail ke dibe, hari chandi woh pag dandi, mujhe awaas deti hai sabhi parwaas kehti hai, kissi ki shabnami, palkon ke saye mein..

There is also a remix version of this song by Sonu and Akbar Sami. Sonu sings some English lines in the remix and well that was enough to send me crazy. I can hardly stand the rap piece and whenever I listen to it I wonder what the hell Sonu was thinking when he decided on putting in a rap piece.

last night I stood along the DJ, waiting for you my baby, and when I saw you on the dance floor, then I came knocking at your door

I can’t stop thinking about the things you do, and when you call me baby when I’m holding you, I shake and shiver when I hold you, and when you whisper in my ear.

Isn’t he just damn sweet and sexy?
