I am a huge fan of the American series which has the genre of either crime/mystery/thriller. Though I love the drama and suspense in those, a little comedy would be just like the icing on the cake. Castle, as a TV series is bang on to that description.
The show's main plot line revolves around Richard Castle(Nathon Fillion), an ace mystery novelist, who has to his name plenty of best sellers. The other protagonist is Detective Kate Beckett(Stana Katic), an NYPD, homicide detective.
The two meet for the first time, when a serial killer imitates the murders as described by Castle in one of his many best sellers. The Mayor of New York, puts him on the case along with Detective Kate, in order to apprehend the criminal. His creative thinking, does help the NYPD to crack many cases and he becomes a regular with Kate's team in solving many of the mysteries that come to the12th precinct department, where Kate is the youngest woman detective ever.
The likable things for people who love this genre is the way in which the cases are solved, it's heavy drama yet portrayed in a very light manner.this may not be the best show amongst it's compatriots like Game of thrones, Hannibal, The blacklist, The following etc, but Castle, does not take a toll on your brain, but at the same time, it's not at all illogical.
The slight doses of comedy, romance, the subtle encounters between castle and his mother and daughter and also Kate's relationship with her team members of Xavier, Ryan and Lanie gives the plot an interesting mix.
Though first 2 seasons, make you want to watch it some more, seasons 3 and 4 have no back drop of stories except one, involving Kate and it gets stretched maybe a tad too much. However, seasons 5 and 6 are really good, and the finale of season 6 was well written and had a very smart and shocking end to it. The only things that might bother a viewer after seeing all the seasons is that, a viewer can easily relate with the script writer's mentality and midway through seasons 3 and 4 he can start guessing in just about 10 minutes into the show that who the culprit is.
If the makers can keep the suspense element tight, I think this show can easily make into double figures in terms of its season. Season 7 has already started, and if you haven't watched the show yet, you can start off.
If you are a lover of the genre and also love shows like, The mentalist, The following, The Blacklist, CSI, The killing, then believe me you will love Castle a lot more, cause content wise its same as the others, but it is very light on your mind and yet keeps you engrossed with the amazing cases and superb acting of the cast! Watch it and enjoy!
