I have only one pair of eyes.....

I hope this review can be of help to a lot of you. First, I was diagnose with Retinitis Pigmentosa or known as RP when I was 28 years old. Since, I am also deaf, this eye disease is known as Usher Syndrome with hearing loss. Then being diagnose with Diabetes's a few years back, well I must say I got to take care of my eyes more than most people.

Before I explain what I can best describe about these conditions, I will list a few points. When using a computer, please keep your eyes at least 14 inches away from the screen. If the bright light still bothers you, can buy a screen shade to put over your computer to help dim the harsh light. If you wear glasses, please let your doctor know how long you stay on the computer, for he can prescribe better lenses and color type lenses to help protect your eyes.  Another point is sunglasses, please wear them outdoors. Invest in a good pair. The UV rays from the sun will damage your retina's if you are not careful. With my type problem, my eye doctor suggest, I use only the darkest of shades in the colors of deep gray. No other colors.

Some eye diseases are listed here and if you have an diabetic family member or friend, encourage them to get regular eye checkups.

Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in diabetics. About two out of five people with diabetes have diabetic retinopathy(a common complication of diabetes).

In the early stages, there are no symptoms of diabetic eye disease or glaucoma, another potential threat to the vision of people with diabetes.

Diabetic eye disease can develop even if diabetes is under control.

Early detection and timely treatment can improve chances of saving vision.

Laser treatment can prevent vision loss in many patients with diabetic retinopathy.

People with diabetes should have annual comprehensive eye examinations with dilated pupils.

Some people with diabetes are at even higher risk than other people with diabetes.

If detected early, diabetic eye disease may be managed appropriately and vision preserved in most patients.

Most diabetics have fears, or have no general idea or other factors that can keep them from having care for their eyes. Some fear of going blind, some think just having border type diabetes is not going to affect their eyes plus, some people have no insurance or can afford the comprehensive eye exams and they can be very expensive. I suggest if you live in the states to contact the Low Vision services in the county you live. They have great source of information to help you out.

Usher Syndrome.

The combination of RP and congenital hearing impairment in a person is known as Retinitis Pigmentosa . Usher syndrome is divided into three types. Type I is characterized by profound hearing impairment, problems with balance and typical RP. Type II is characterized by moderate hearing impairment and typical RP. Type Ill is characterized by progressive hearing impairment and typical of RP. All types of Usher syndrome are autosomal recessive diseases.

Retinitis Pigmentosa  is the name given to a group of hereditary diseases of the retina of the eye. The retina lies at the back of the eye and it acts like the film in a camera, receiving and processing everything you see. The retina is a delicate layer of cells which picks up the pictures and transmits them to the brain. In humans there are two types of light sensitive cells in the retina: rod cells and cone cells.

Sometimes people complain of floaters in front of the eyes, or not enough light, Other symptoms includes low light to dark adaption times and poor contrast sensitivity.

What causes Retinitis Pigmentosa?

Retinitis Pigmentosa may be caused by a breakdown in the function of the rods or the cones in some part of the retina. The retina is so complex that breakdowns may occur in a variety of ways and so RP is not a single disorder but a great number of disorders. The breakdown of cone function may be called Macular Degeneration.

On some more points in eye care. Ladies, please do not let people borrow your eye makeup. Believe it or not you can get an eye infection called infectious conjunctivitis known as the'pink eye'. My daughter learn a lesson about this. Teen girls always borrowing each others eye makeup, jewelry, clothes, etc. Other than this review, please take care of your eyes as you would any other part of your health lifestyle.
