Original Review, Nov. 2009.
The Canon Poweshot A570 IS is indeed superior to other brands and even the Canon IXUS range, with the presence of full manual controls, Image Stabiliser that indeed works, powerful flash, a great macro mode for taking close-up pictures, powered by AA batteries and thesimplest to use software interface menu.
The camera has several shooting modes for different occasions(and light conditions, including underwater) and you can also fix an external lens and flash if you want.
The AA batteries make it convenient to carry around the camera without having to bother about charging. You can use rechargeable batteries or even use standard cells in emergency(Rs. 16 a pair) unlike the Canon IXUS range or other slim brand cameras which use proprietary lithium-ion battery, which has to be taken out of those cameras, put into bulky chargers and then plug into power socket. Heaven help if that battery or the charger goes wrong(each of those could cost upto 3000 or even difficult to find in India). With standard AA batteries your Canon A 570 is always ready for action.
The LCD is visible even in sunlight or you can also use the view finder(the viewfinder shows a smaller area than the picture, the final picture will be bigger than what you saw through the viewfinder).
The camera also has a cool Photo Stitchfeature which allows you to take multiple shots and then combine them into one pic on your pc.
You can transfer the pictures and videos to your pc with the supplied software. It also connects to your TV.
Pictures taken indoors are also great. I have taken several at high resolution, Auto setting(100 ISO) with flash and all of them have come out great with no noise.

There is battery usage indicator when the camera has used up 1/3 rd and then 2/3rds of battery charge. You can change several settings to conserve battery.
FLASH:Flash recharge time depends on where and when you are taking pictures and how much power if left in your batteries. Flash charge time is 1 second in bright lights, upto 5 seconds in low light and upto 10 seconds in absolute darkness. During flash recharge the LCD is off.
You can take approximately 350 high resolution pictures on a 2GB card.
The camera takes incredible full screen videos with sound at around 15 minutes on a 2GB card.
It can also record soundat around 2 hrs on the 2GB card.
You get 2 printed user manuals, unlike Sony which supplies them only on CD.
It is advisable to purchase a set of 2500 Nimh rating rechargeable AA batteries for the camera(around Rs. 800 with charger & 4 batteires).

Cost: Rs. 13, 000 (Camera+ Carry Case+ 2GB Sandisk Memory Card+ 2 years Canon National Warranty+ Uniross XPress Mini-Charger 2100 Nimh with 2 AA batteries).October 2007 Price.
Different dealers offer different prices depending on when the particular unit was manufactured, mine is Sept. 2007. It is my personal opinion that you avoid purchase from Canon direct showrooms. They have the highest prices and the least freebies.
