It is upto an individual to choose whether they want to be at peace or not. Peace is a very subjective term.
Peace as defined by dictionary.com is as follows:
peace
n.
The absence of war or other hostilities.
An agreement or a treaty to end hostilities.
Freedom from quarrels and disagreement; harmonious relations: roommates living in peace with each other.
Public security and order: was arrested for disturbing the peace.
Inner contentment; serenity: peace of mind.
interj.
Used as a greeting or farewell, and as a request for silence.
Idioms:
at peace
In a state of tranquillity; serene: She is at peace with herself and her friends.
Free from strife: Everyone wants to live in a world at peace.
keep/hold(one's) peace
To be silent.
keep the peace
To maintain or observe law and order: officers who were sworn to keep the peace.
According to me too much of a premium is accorded to the absence of war or other hostilities.
Governments around the world spend a fortune trying to maintain this kind of Peace. And if after so many centuries of “We’re Going To War, So That There Will Be Peace!” all that we have got is a world full of hatred and hostilities, it is time now to rightly ask – Which peace are we aiming for? How can we bring peace to our nation by killing Afghanistani’s or Iraqi’s – Innocent or otherwise? No peace can be everlasting if it is acquired at gunpoint.
Instead if we as individuals and even the Governments and other organisations all around the world shift their attention to the other peace Inner contentment; serenity: peace of mind. and try and focus on ensuring that every individual in their country achieves this peace. Achieves the spirituality and the higher level of awareness which puts him or her at peace with the world and more importantly at peace with themselves and their immediate environment, then my friends you will be surprised to find that the earlier target has also been achieved. No person who is at peace with himself and his environs is going to participate in a war that threatens his peace. Hence by just putting all people through special training classes and the use of such extra techniques as yoga or meditation, and by defining a way of life which will automatically abhor violence of any nature, the governments around the world would achieve what centuries of Defense Spending has not got for them Namely the same - absence of war or other hostilities.
And please, I do understand that it appears very simple on paper but is a very difficult and long path to peace. You cannot get this in a day or even in a year. But if you start this type of change today, then a decade later you will see the changes and the benefits and ofcourse the elusive peace.
Hence in my opinion there can definitely be peace in a world of sudden terror – Only if given a chance.
But no politician and no military and defense supplies vendor is going to allow that chance to be given to peace.
Because there is no peace, politicians thrive. They instill the hate of others in your minds and your hearts. They divide you into colors and races, religions and nationalities, castes and classes. And once you are so divided, THEY RULE YOU. They become your saviors in one war and adversaries in another.
And we allow this to happen. Hence in conclusion, friends, I have to revise my opinion to NO there can be NO PEACE in a world of sudden terror. Atleast not unless YOU will it to happen.
May you find peace. God Bless and take care.
