Go for Plasma for good movie viewing

Now a days it is very difficult to decide which TV to buy. LCD or Plasma. Which brand. Who's product is best. Which is best buy. Because when we invest 30 thousand plus on TV we would like to be extra cautious. We did similar research for nearly 6 months. We studied contrast ratio (dynamic and static), picture quality, functions like HDMI, DiVX compatibility, External sound output, weight, handling, power consumption, price (of course), service contract, etc., We studied all possible brands. went to showrooms almost every weekend and personally watched each and every brand.

Finally we felt, all LCD TVs look alike. All Plasma TVs look alike. You can't even make out whether it is Plasma or LCD in first look. It doesn't matter whether you go for Plasma or LCD. The life of LCD is more to that of Plasma.

We are clear that a TV technology could get out dated in just 5 to 7 years. So it doesn't make much difference if it lasts 10 years or more. Similarly, all brands offer 1 year minimum warranty. Beyond that neither our dealers do know much about what will happen if the product get some trouble. Most of the brands sold in India are overseas brands and they all get it outsourced to China/Taiwan. Closely watch the made in tag on product. Let me admit that we only know cheap Chines toys but not other products. So we make a judgement if it stands alone. But when a brand tag is attached we believe that the quality might be good. No brand replaces the product so easily in these days.

Coming back to the topic, you need bigger room minimum 10ft viewing distance to watch on Plasma. For LCD this problem is not there. YOu can view as close as 2 ft. The power consumption is almost double in Plasma to LCD. If LCD consumes 180W, Plasma consumes 300 plus. Apart from minor

We purchased a Plasma after through research. It is great viewing. We thought of going for brand. But when we found that there is almost 15000 price difference(August 2008), we prefered to go to un branded. It is absolutely stunning. We paid nearly 47000 for 42 inch Plasma.

We were initially scared but took risk. Its more than 3 months. Our outdated local cable is also giving stunning results and watching a movie is great. I think Plasma is better than LCD. Ofcourse if you want to go for less than 42 inch, LCD is best option. The image resolution is more realistic on Plasma than on LCD. The images are more flat on LCD. But you can find depth on Plasma. Hence the viewing experience is great. I felt it is absolutely waste of money to pay for just brand name.

Now lets wait and see what happens. Even it works for 4 years then paisa vasool for me. By that time some improvements in technology bound to come and I don't want to get hooked to this outdated one at that time. But it is risk you take. Some times I don't mind if it is well researched and calculated.
