AMDs and heating problems?? Naah...No more!

Once upon a time, AMDs used to suffer from heat problems resulting in disasters but now with fans virtually in every nook and corner inside the cabinet and some other design innovations, things have certainly changed. AMD has carved a niche for itself in the processor market and is now rapidly seeping into Intel's market(especially on the desktop front). Add to their already acknowledged exceptional levels of performance and reliability this addressing of the heat problems, and you've arguably the best buy in the current scenario.

AMD definitely scores over Pentium when it comes to Throughput(sort of number of instructions executed per second). While Pentiums make the consumers giddy by touting their ever increasing clock speeds, AMDs provide better performance at virtually 60-70% of those clock speeds. And this is no way accompanied by a trade-off in the costs. AMDs outplay their Intel counterparts even when it comes to prices. And now with the advent of the first 64-bit PC processor(holding compatibiltiy with today's 32-bit and tomorrow's 64-bit software) AMD is all set to make computing enter into an altogether new and amazing dimension.

AMD Athlon XP and Duron(loosely equivalent to Intel's Pentium and Celeron, respectively) have already proved their excellence in the Indian market and are in a good demand. Coming to the configuration(in case one wishes to go for an assembled AMD system), the best bet is the Asus Motherboard - Athlon XP combo. For enhanced performance, 128 or 256 MB of DDR RAM is a good choice. On the front of low-on-demand applications, AMD Duron delivers well without any compromise on the budgets.
