Here are some points you should keep in mind while buying a computer:-
1) The monitor: Should be atleast 17' inch .
And 1024x768 min. res . And a high DPI.
Phillips monitors are quite good . Phillips and Benq .
And dont forget to get a FLATSCREEN!. Monitors with oval shaped screens look so ugly and unpleasing to the eye.
Flatscreen CRT. Don't buy an LCD LCD will cause some kind of motion blur while playing games / vedios
Monitor should be: Phillips / Benq Flatscreen CRT atleast 17' and 1024x768 or higher and a high color depth.
2) In the motherboard there should be 2 slots.
3) There should be atleast 2 USB slots( 2 version)
4) There should be atleast 192 mb
5) Then the Disk Drives. There is no need of a floppy drive. But you need the CD drives. The type od cd drives are: CD, CD/R, CD/RW, DVD, DVD/R, DVD/RW or the best one CD/DVD/R/RW. Their speed should be 52X.
6) There should be a good graphics card. Should be the latest. Currently ATI Radeon 9800 XT is good.
7) There should be a good sound card. Mostly of Creative Labs.
8) The printer should be of HP. ther printers are very good.
9) The Scanner should be of Canon.
10) The web cam should be of Logitech . A wireless one.
11) The mouse and keyboard should be of Microsoft or Logitech.
12) THe speed should be 3.00 Ghz or higher.
13) Oh yeah and make sure you have proper cooling in your cpu . Just request them to open it up and show you the cooling fans. Sometimes shopkeepers remove the cooling fans to fool the customers . See that there is at-least a single cooling fan.
14) Also after they've installed and customized everything for you, tell them to power up the PC in front of you, and then right click the'My Computer' icon and click'Properties'. It'll show all the details of your PC .
I was going to be cheated when I was buying my new P4 . They put on an old ATI Rage gfx instead of the one I told them to - ATI Radeon 9200 . I caught them by checking the properties . They made a very lame excuse'We did it by mistake'
( Haha, now who in the world would install a wrong graphics card in a pc by MISTAKE?!)
15) When you enter the shop the first thing you must ask is: Do you have a Pentium 4 with a clock speed of 3.00 Ghz or higher? If they say no, then simply move on to the other shops.
If yes, then continue to ask other questions like RAM and stuff I told you about
finally you tell them to make the neccessary changes and then they tell you to come and pick up your PC at a certain time.
When you go there to pickup your pc, just do the checkup.
( Haha you know how people buy pcs?'Oh no, this color is not good. I want a RED PC! YEY!')
16) Yeah, the most important thing: A good PC should cost no more than Rs. 30, 000 . If they ask more than that, they're probably scamming you.
17) There should be atleast 40 GB Space.
Thats all I can tell and think of.
