Boris Becker is to Germany what Sachin and Azhar are to India, a hero, a role model for the German after Hitler let them down
It seems that just yesterday on a sunny Sunday a kid of 17years old from the land of Hitler boom his way to become the first ever unseeded, and the youngest ever to win the Wimbledon defeating Kevin Curren in the final of 1985. At the age when most of the kid are in School this guy was holding the most coveted trophy in the game of tennis. He also defended his title successfully the next year where he defeated Ivan Lendl in the final
A power player known for his scorching serve,it was Boris who first introduce the good volley with power serve which became so famous that after him most of the player who won Wimbledon adopting the same power game. He is to be at so ease at Wimbledon that he use to call Wimbledon his “backyard”
The only thing he was not good at was to control his temper at times during matches.
But when at his best he use to bring certain amount of Passion and intensity at center court that neither Edberg or Sampras could bring to their game. He was the King who like to see his opponent blasted with power as early as possible.
As it happens in most of the case, success brings fame, money and women along with it and Becker was no exception, he got all that at an early age and that to in abundance. ( The women seems to follow fame and money it seems whether it is Azhar or Becker). He got married to Barbra, a American black model against all odds, when he was in supreme of his career. I think if he had not got married his career would have been shown brighter then what in the ended it was. And now when he is not so famous and rich his wife is leaving him. ( sorry! they call it divorce in legal terms). Azhar must be following the Becker Vs Barbra case with lot of interest and curiosity… who knows what may happens in future!! Chances are that Indian people may also witness something like the people of America and Germany are witnessing now…(Azhar Vs Bijlani very much on card)
I wish it doesn’t have any bad effect oh his two sons.
In Grand Slam tournaments, Becker won the Wimbledon men's singles title in 1985, 1986, and 1989; the U.S. Open men's singles title in 1989; and the Australian Open men's singles title in 1991. He also won 49 tiles during his illustrious career.
There was time between 1985 to 92 when he featured in six final out of seven a record in itself.
A talent which was not fully utilize to its full potential.
