I didn't think or expect much before going for the movie and before starting the review would like to mention that I enjoy watching such low profiled and low budget movies.
"BOLO RAAM" is about a son's cute relationship with his mom, a murder mystery, psychotherapy, some communist and "jehadi" stuff, a little bit of love and some exasperating humor. Might have got the direction? Did you? No! That is what I mean by highly dis linked concepts entangled together.
The movie starts with a very gripping scenario wherein the local police arrests Raam Kaushik, played by not so promising Rishi Bhutani who has allegedly murdered his mother (Padmini Kolhapure). Raam doesn't speak anything about the incident and seems to be mentally laid up. Dr. Neggi ( Nasserudin Shah) opines that Raam is under severe stress and not actually mad. The trial continues in the police station's compound with various people linked to Raam being interrogated by Commissioner Inderjit Singh (Om Puri). All through there are glimpses of minor flash backs linked with all of them. But the main character doesn't speak till..... I think it will not be proper to reveal the critical fact of the movie!!!
The plots bunched together have no negativity individually but it was a serious blemish, even to try to bond them together. The movie started as a mystery and should have continued like that with some blending not the type writer/director Rakesh Chaturvedi has done. Viewers end up asking questions like: why was this even shown? or was it needed? or even how can you conclude this with something like this? It commences with a son's acute craziness and love for his mother and it ends like "ma har majzab se bari hoti hai". Why? Even the name is confusing; is it "BOLO RAAM" as Raam say something or "BOLO RAAM" as something concerned with religion. Anyways the first interpretation connects to the movie more appropriately. The secrecy of the script is maintained properly but then the same error as always, in some nano seconds, all the twists get straightened and some anonymously visible character comes into picture. Why can't we have a good conclusion to the thrillers in Indi Cinema? The paramount error is the cause and the perception. The cause for which the misdeed was done was different and the interpretation by the characters was completely different. This was miserable.
Rishi Bhutani, speaks rarely and when he speaks he disappoints. Om Puri does nothing too special. Naseerudin Shah; what was he doing in here? The 5 minute role could have been played by any of the junior artists, I suppose. Padmini Kolhapure justified her role.
I forgot Rajpal Yadav. He is getting wretched day by day and his acts are getting monotonic. The same getting slapped and screaming his lungs out here too. Is he on the brink of bankruptcy or something? Why is he abusing his talent?
There is one song or probably two. One of them "Ma" sung by Sukhwinder is pleasent, one really beautiful thing in the movie.
So finally "BOLO RAAM" didn't actually impress me. One time watchable; ya! but a purely forgettable attempt.
