It is a Salman Khanmovie. I wouldn't  be surprised if they replace the name with'Salman Guard' if the movie is a hit. Before being a critique, let me briefly depict what the movie is all about.

Salman is an immensely skilled bodyguard who can guard alone, replacing 10 guards. Good offer in the age of high price, I guess! However, our bodyguard’s original name Lovely Singh owes greatly to Sartaj Rana(Raj babbar) for saving his life when he was an infant. He gets a chance to guard Sartaj Rana's only daughter Divya(kareena). Divya and her beloved friend Maya get bored and irritated by the bodyguard who follows them like their shadows; to an extent of even going inside the Women's loo. To get rid of this bodyguard constantly eyeing on their whereabouts they try some fun. Divya becomes Chhaya and gives call to Lovely from a private number, just to distract his attention for them to breathe. Lovely Singh immediately falls in their trap as wished by Divya who further traps herself in this love quagmire.

But love cannot happen socially between a bodyguard and his object of guard; so there goes a hell lot of trial and error methods where the lovers keep missing their chances only to end up departing. Lovely pays heed to duty towards Divya more than his unseen love Chhaya; and Divya desperately wants him to confess his love. And when he does he does it for Chhaya and not for Divya. In the climax you see a young kid reading a diary written by her mother who is dead. He goes to Sartaj Rana palace accompanied by his father, Lovely Singh. Now, who took the place of'Chhaya' is the twist in this movie.

As mentioned by me earlier, it’s Salman Khan who is all-in-all in the movie. If you are a ‘Salmu’ fan then you will like it thoroughly. Salman looks hot and dashing, reminds me of his ‘Hum Aap Ke Hai Kaun’ days. It is indeed good to see him back, this time packed with the glamour and glitz. Reminds me of my school days when we used to dote on him for his hit movies like Maine Pyar Kiya, Saajan, Pyar Kiya Toh Darna Kya & Hum Aap Ke Hai Kaun. The last one is my personal favourite as I felt no one could have been so aptly fitting in that role of Prem than Salmu. In this movie Salman did his part diligently as a robotic bodyguard and a first time lover. He looked innocent and nervous when it came to romance, but strong as a bodyguard. However, the movie had less of acting scope and more of ‘bollywoodish’ action activities but nevertheless, Salman looked good and confident as Bodyguard Lovely Singh.

Kareena looked gorgeous in her Indian attires. She had a sensuous look in the song ‘Teri Meri Prem Kahani”. But she had nothing else to do much, apart from looking good. Due to lag in the script and Salman occupying the maximum amount of time in the screen she hardly gets a foothold to deliver a marked performance. Had a script been proper she could have delivered a good come back performance in this movie. Other, side actors played their part as given but none of the characters could make a significant impact on the audience.

The only good part of the movie apart from Salman Khan is its songs. Good job by Himesh Reshamiya and Pritam(I love u). I personally loved the “I Love U’ song as it successfully brought back to me the soothing touch of first romance.

The greatest drawbacks of the movie are its storyline, script and characterisation. The first half drags to boredom. The dialogues placed during comic situation do not make you laugh; nor there any catchy statements during the important scenes. None of the characters could create a lasting effect on the audience mind, not even the character bodyguard Lovely Singh. The action scenes are pretty mediocre and so are the songs placed in the movie. Overall, the film doesn’t make you hate it, nor excites you.

The only USP of the movie Salman Khan looking hot with his sun-glasses and coolly young may pull the huge crowd that dotes on him, but definitely they won’t be attempting for a second show. So, Salmu miya – you have the ability to pull extensive crowd by your presence, so why not pull better scripts now!
