Pulse of the youth...!!. Review on Bluff Master Songs

A smart cook is one who when in doubt of his recipe mixes and sprinkles all that he has on his hands and hopes that he comes up with something delicious and palatable. The chef’s dictum has off late found favors with a rather curious coterie, our Hindi moviemakers. It seems those good old days of just one music director and lyricist being entrusted with the task of providing some humming and soulful numbers is surely over. The latest trend that is doing the rounds is of having different music directors and lyricists for different songs and in some cases Hindi cinema music is aping the Hollywood concept of picking up hit songs from music bands and singers and using them in their soundtrack to ensure that they have a foot tapping collection for their movie. The same is the case with Bluffmaster, a film by Rohan Sippy starring AB’s baby, Priyanka Chopra and Riteish Deshmukh.

Sippy has been savvy enough to realize that 2005 has been the year of hip hop numbers and he has tried to get in as much as foot tapping, party loving numbers as he could for his movie. This year has belonged to music, which is youthful, peppy, hip-hop and trendy so to speak of in sync with the rebellious mood of the youth of today. The music of Bluffmaster is very much in tune with the flavor of the season and has some numbers which are sure to set the dance floor on fire, they may not linger on for a long time a la classic mode, but they would surely keep your feet tapping for as long as they catch your fancy, and catch they will.

Since the songs of this movie are shared between different music directors, I have clubbed the songs, which have a common music director. In the first section I will talk about the songs which have been arranged by Trickbaby, most of which have been taken from their latest album Hanging Around.

The songs 9 parts of desire and Parde Ke Peeche are a wonderful fusion what with the tune being heavily inspired from the theme of the James Bond flick Golden Eye along with some innovative use of Indian instruments and some spirited performances on the dhol and the drums. Saira has borrowed heavily from Tina Turner and Whitney Houston in the vocals so don’t be surprised if you have a certain déjà vu gripping you while you listen to these songs. The lyrics speak of the cool fusion that the group has blended in their music with use of both Hindi and English words and connotations.

Indi Yarn as the name suggests is a blend of two old Hindi songs namely eena meena dika and shayad meri shadi ka khayal both songs had an inimitable Kishore Da style written all over it and to the credit of the group they have been able to do a cool fusion of the two songs with some contemporary tunes and percussions, the vocals of Saira does not sound jarring despite of the tone and pitch at which she renders the songs. I was quite impressed with the attempt and would certainly recommend it.

Neela is more in the Enigma mode so to speak of with only music backed by some humming and background vocals without any https://lyrics. It has a certain Vedic chant touch to it along with some real cool keyboards and drum work to spice up the tune. I am sure this one would be much sought after in the remix circuit for the tune is such that a Dj Aqueel might do wonders to it with his pace and beats.

Sabse bada rupaiiya is the title track of the movie and is a rehash or cover if you might like of the one which was penned down by the incomparable Majrooh saab and went on to become the anthem of the nation so to speak of. Vocals are shared by the late Mehmood saab and Saira Hassan and one must admit that it has come out rather well, but my complain with this one is that at first listen it seems too influenced by the tune of Dus bahane karke le gaye dil, one wonders if Vishal-Shekhar played a role in this one? Yet at the same time this one also has that distinct Trickbaby touch to it, as most of their tracks have a certain common flavor running through them.

Bure Bure (Boro Boro) is an Iranian song sung by Arash with music from Arash and Robert Uhlmann and is probably the best track of the album. The inspiration for this song came from Arash’s ex girlfriend. Boro means “ go away” and that’s precisely what he is saying to her in this song. This one started by hitting the number 1 in the Swedish Sales Chart and went on to become a major hit all across Europe.

Say na Say na with vocals from Aneela Mirz and Arash has a distinct Punjabi touch to it and would surely make it big on the bhangra circuit. The brilliant use of dhol along with a folk like lyrics really appeals. The lyrics are quite different and have been rendered in a unique way.

Come fishing(Bluff master theme) has a narration touch to it with some catchy tunes in the background. There is nothing new with this one to be honest for this concept has been tried many times before in Hindi movies with varying degrees of success. The music director could have certainly done a better job then this.

Do aur do paanch is a remix of the one sung by Kishore da. For this one Abhishek has also put in some lines here and there to give the song a pep feel, to the credit of Sameeruddin this one does come across as a cool remix. The beats and tune are pep, I know I am oft repeating this term but that’s all I can say for this one. The remix will surely appeal to the foot tapping public for it does coaxes you to the dance floor.

Tadbeer se bigdi hui taqdeer a Geeta Dutt class remixed by Sameeruddin fails to leave an impression unlike his other numbers. It seems Sippy has picked out songs which had conceit or conning in their https://lyrics.

Gateway Theme is a soothing tune and I am sure it will grow on after watching the movie, something one wont regret listening to while driving or sitting idle. The music director has tried to add a certain lilting feel to it amidst all the beats and keyboard work and to his credit he has done a decent job of it.

Like father like son, well that’s what I can for Abhishek, for he seems to be doing all the things just like Amitabh, he had to wait for a long time like him to get his first hit and now like him he has suddenly discovered that he can also sing. He has rendered the vocals for Right here right now along with Sunidhi Chauhan with music done by Vishal-Shekhar of Dus fame. The music is a little offbeat and the vocals are tastefully done with some really catchy improvisations by Abhishek, at least in this one he has come trumps over Sunidhi whose voice has been underplayed, one feels deliberately by the music director.

All in all the album comes across as a decent one and a certain recommend for the different styles and music that has been collated into it. On a scale of 10 I would be tempted to give it like a 7ish.

I have written a film album review after ages so I am just hoping that it does not bother too much on the NU list so to speak of, but that should not stop you from baying for my blood incase some of you have developed Dracula tendencies (sic).
