Yesterday I got my first order from Bigbasket delivered. This review is all about the website delivery, price, product quality and overall experience.
As my mother ran out of grocery stock and as I usually return late home after work, going to bazaar was just not an option. I had heard about Bigbasket and Grofers from friends who do home delivery for grocery at market prices. I thought of trying them.
Grofers has a putative delivery time of 2-3 hours while big basket gives you an option of available slots, usually, of next day.
Price wise, I found some items cheaper on bigbasket and others on grofers. But, I couldn't find some items on grofers. Also, grofers is seller based. That means, you have to select the seller first and then choose from what seller has in store. So, it is just like an online market place. On the other hand, bigbasket gave me wider range of items but some items were unreasonably overpriced, for example capsicum.
However, as Grofer was App only, I chose Bigbasket.com to order as deskptop gives a better and faster shopping experience.
Overall, I found big basket comparatively cheaper. Although one may find few items cheaper than in the local market, one will end up spending more online. Thus, if money is the concern and you have time, local market is better option.
As far as the quality of grocery items from Bigbasket is concerned, I must tell you that the quality is definitely lower than what one may find in local market. The french beans delivered already were wrapped in fungus inside the packet. The onions were of the size of lemons. Potatoes were smaller than average size. But Lady finger was very good and very cheap(Rs 31 /Kg) & so also the coriander leaves, cucumber, green chillies and tomatoes. Green pumpkin was fairly priced. MRP products came with Rs 2-3 discount and packaging was intact as expected. There was no hassle with the delivery guy as the order was prepaid.
The actual amount of bill may be 5% more than shown based on the actual weight while packaging. Mine varied by Rs 15/-
Though the delivery happened in scheduled time, delivery time of 24 hours is too much compared to 2-3 hours of grofers. I would order grocery online only if I don't have time to go to the market or for such other important reasons and thus, if I am supposed to get lower quality product with a little more shelling of money, then I would next time prefer Grofers over big basket sheer for the reason of quick delivery.
Also, Bigbasket has drastic variation in prices of the same products. For example, they had some organic veggies which costed 2x the other variants. I don't know what actually make them so expensive.
One feature I loved about big basket is list creation. One can create and save the regular grocery items in lists so that one does not require to order them again. However, there is a lot of scope for improving the user experience, especially post order. My orders section should be improved taking inspiration from flipkart.
In short, The overall experience of ordering from Bigbasket was helpful and satisfactory but could have been much better given the better quality of grocery in a shorter span of delivery time.
