Jagmohan's ' Bawandar ' is reel life from real life ! The story revovles around Saawri ( nandita das ) who becomes a worker in a group called ''Saathin'' ( working for the upliftment of women in villages ) ! Saawri being the representative of the group sends a complaint against the Hukum who is getting his daughter ( a child hardly 4years ) married ! when hukum hears about this he and a couple of others including the head of the village rape Saawri !
But for Saawri this is not the end ! she decides to take action against these men with the support of her husband ! Amidst this she has to deal with alot of mishappenings but nothing stops her!
There are few watch outs when she comes across this lady police officer who feels shes more lucky to have been with a couple of men at one time !
The police inspector of the village whom u see satisfying himself with saawris's ghagra !
When she goes to get herself examined the doctor who tries to make her his victim !
Jagmohan does try to get in touch with this 'dirty' side which makes one feel really sad for the actual Saawri !
But the story seems to be revolving more around sexual satisfaction ,masturbation and topics related !
Saawri finally seeks help with a lawyer ( gulshan grover ) but alls in vain ! Saawri looses the case but is still waiting for justice !
There are other few characters in the film like Amy ( laila rouass) and Ravi ( rahul khanna ) who have come to india to meet Saawri after they read about her story !
Deepti naval who plays the head of the group ''Saathin'' who makes Saawri the representative and helps her along the battle of life !
Lillette dubey another reporter who also helps Saawri but is more interested in the gossip included thus wanting to make a name for herself !
Govind namdeo who has given a very good performance and is one of the rapists !Nandita das and gulshan grover have also given good performances !
Overall all I can say is that the film has been dragged alot and is actually very slow ! some points and characters in the film are irrelevant ! Like I said before one does feel bad for saawri but the film could've been shorter and much to the point !
