How I luv this place.....? This has been home away from home for me 'n I 'm more at ease here .This has also been a dream place for me ,in the sense that it has provided me all the avenues that I yearned for 'n much more!!This place is known as ''The silicon valley'',''The Garden City'',''Pub city '' 'n god knows what all.I have lived in many cities in India but I must say this city has a laid back charm of its own 'n I must confess that I fell in luv at first sight.
If u r a techie engg guy ,believe me there can be no place in india that can provide u with so many openings 'n oppurtunites to launch ur career.Infact there r so many software cos that before u can distribute ur resumes,something like pamplettes, to all of 'em ,I 'm sure u wud 've landed up with handful of interviews 'n couple of job offers.But that was 2 years back,now it may be all together a different scene.I know many of my college friends from so diverse technical backgrounds say mechanical,civil etc but everybody did land up with cosy jobs in top notch MNC's ,u can call that a wave of good fortune due to software bloom or whatever,but this place was the cynosure of all the activity 'n good luck.
Coming to cons,so that I can end on a good note, it does has its share of greviances,that haunts every big Indian cities like the inadequate infrastructure to keep up pace with the growing girth of the city, corrupt corporators, bumpy roads ,cops especially those traffic cops 'n lastly not to forget abt the famed pesky auto drivers!!! This is known as the garden city ,but I wonder why ,but one has to agree that its greener compared to most of other indian cities like sootish Madras,Kanpur etc.As any Indian cities, riches 'n utter poverty goes hand in hand , with striking contrast,but still I believe its not so apparent in this city compared to large metroes.If at all u happend to land in areas like Majestic or KR Market by mistake,u may curse me for recommending B'lore,but as I said earlier ,u can t help it,part 'n parcel of urban city woes in India.!!
This place is full of ppl from other states ,'n local Kannadigas can be considered to be minorities out here,giving that rich cosmopolitan vibrant culture that this place is well known for.For eg ,it would be hard to believe that Kannada is a local language if u r residing in areas like Koramanagla,Indiranagar. Life moves at a much relaxed pace compared to other big cities (sometimes this place has striking similarities with Pune )'n the the attitude of this place is very well described by the adage, ''Swapla adjust madikoli,saar!!'' .The best part of this city has to be its weather ,frankly its heaven,I havent enjoyed weather in any parts of the world like here.It barely changes thro' out the year ,with an average of 30 C'n ppl here never seems to know the meaning of adversities like floods(may occur bcoz of poor choking drainage system 'n not bcoz of nature's fury),cyclones,frying summers(I hate goa bcoz of its horrible sticky summers 'n madras, I start sweating right here remembering the city),sub-zero frigid winters etc
Some of the most commonly attached words with this city r ''hip'',''trendy'' ,mainly bcoz of its modern outlook.This can be seen in full splendour if one happens to frequent some colourful fashion streets like Brigades ,MG Road,Commericals..Oh my ,I am never bored of walking down these places anytime of the day 'n which can be called as the ''downtown''.Nowadays even Airport Road,is in thick of things,but that big Thames river ,oh no!! something has to be done for that .If u r in Bangalore u can never have a boring evening or weekend ,mainly bcoz of its innumerable pubs( no, dont confuse it with just sitting there 'n gulping beer ) ,which r all concentrated around Brigades ,'n has increased the coolness quotient of this city.On a given day u can catch up with,say ''trance vs house vs tribal '' jamming that can melt ur hair gel in ''180-Proof'' on Wed( no weekend is complete without dropping here,crowd 'n music here is pure cocaine!!), music is mixed ,remixed,spun 'n thrown onto the turntable at (does this line sound familiar to u ppl in B'lore???hahahah ....) ''DJ Ivan 'n friends'' evening at Urban Edge on Friday ,or it maybe ''Extreme juncture'' with a combination of rock 'n trance act at Sparks or ''hip-hop'' evenings on thursday or ''Bridge grind '' at Mars2211on tuesday, or some rave party at ooo...hh ''Opium''(if u r looking to impress ur chic blind date look no further,this is the ideal place)which guzzles with hi-fashion on Saturday 'n if u r lucky with some invitation passes then sneak in for some swanky party like ''Smirnoff International Fashion Awards'' at elite ''Club Inferno'' or if u want to know why all rock bands like Deep purple,B.adams,scorpions (hey what happend to pink floyd rumours?) make it a point to host a concert in this city then drop in at ''Purple Haze'' .How can I leave out Pecos,one of the landmarks of B'lore ,but its only for those who can get their lines from Jimi Hendrix ,Zappa right ,'n not for average yuppie,looking for some flashy discos.(check out my revus for more).Crowd in B'lore ,I must say,is very decent,flashy 'n to put it more correctly, mind their own buisness .Music here is religion ,unadulerated(u know what I mean?),pure gold 'n every joint has its own identity.This can surely be called as ''Ibiza of India''(if not for those idiotic 11:30 deadline,that has almost killed the night life here,add this one to the con(ing) list).
Anyway if u r looking for some good food , u can catch up lipsmacking sandwiches at Jayangar 4th Block,have authentic south indian meals at MTR ,black forest pastries at famed ''The Nilgiris'' or ''Sweet chariot'',yummy icecreams at Corner House'n exotic cocktails(aslo non-alcoholic) with some continental snacks at TGIF,Indiranagar, nibble a brunch at Casa Picolo in Koramangala,drop in for late night craving at ''Cafe Mosaic'' or for that matter mexican fiesta at ''Orange County''.If u r planning for dining with your date at cloud 9 ,there's nothing like lofty starry ''Ebony'' .Even sipping coffee can throw u a lots of options ,like the traditional flavours at old ''Coffee house'' to cold cappucinos to iced tea at ''Barista'' or shall we head to ''Coffee day'' in front of Bombay house?. Its even more fashionable to loiter with softees down brigade,(especially if its raining )or sip coke at the ''5th avenue''.But hey ,u have in mind those famous south indian idlis 'n dosas right ,then head straight to those joints on DVG Road or Kadambam or Dosa camps!!!Believe me or not ,this place has loads 'n loads of good classy North Indian,continental restaurants than authentic south Indian ones(South Indian food is restricted only to those filthy darshinis, I know only of one good MTR,is there any,pleez enlighten me!!) strange but true!!
This city crawls with famous landmark educational institutions,plenty of engg ,medical colleges ,prestigious IISC,R 'n D organisations,defence establishments all adding up to that intellectual mark of the city.Now this revu is growing too much 'n I can go on 'n on,so to cut short,other notable visitor map areas to check out Vidhana Soudha,Lalbaghs(lots of other parks,frankly I 'm yet to visit most of 'em),ISKON,Nandi Hillsetc etc.
OOooo...h Bangalore is hot 'n happening ,do drop in here to believe me!!!
