I was in Bangalore last week for a short period of 10 days. The main reason for my writing this review is that I visited this place after almost 15 years....
Bangalore is as beautiful as it was then...only now, there are many posh, greatlooking shopping centres with awesome ambiance and architecturally mod and sometimes avant-garde ! I moved around mostly the city and the MG Road areas. Bangalore is beautiful, green, cool as in ''airconditioned comfort''. No sweat, leisurely pace, calming effect on nerves much needed when you come from Bombay ! Best of all clean air compared to other cities..less polluted and less populated. Lots of free open spaces around...which is truly a luxury in today's world of highrise constructions...And this inspite of many smart societies and high rise buildings slowly mushrooming around...
Shopping for silks is most satisfying and beneficial, especially in shops like Mysore Udyog.., Vyjayalakshmi and Prasiddhi...These places give you the pleasure of wide choices, guaranteed quality of good silk and reasonable prices...
Bangalore is great for its Gastronomic delights...Many places to pamper your tastebuds. Eateries and pubs all over and you have a varied choice of foods... the Utthappams (pancakes of rice, lentils) and the unforgettable Rice Shemiya (noodles) slurped with sweet coconut milk...ummm .. are the pride of the Carnataka (kannada) cuisine. Apart from the local pride food you can also choose Punjabi, Chinese, Continental, etc. The ambiance is always good, and the food is great !
While in Bangalore you must never miss out visiting the BANGALORE CLUB ! Its an awesome club...from the ancient British times...You can even see their ledgers where you notice the famous entry where ''Winston Churchill owes the Club Rs. 13...'' Ancient portraits of Maharajas and swords etc. forms the decor of certain areas of the sprawling club with a Bar room with Buffet type food laid out....mouthwatering...! The Reading room is very cosy and condusive to concentration, the Pool, the Dining hall, the Dressing rooms, etc. are so well planned out and maintained in style ! Now if you are lucky enough to be a member or the ''Friend'' of a member, you can have a good meal, complete with soups and desserts for 5 persons for only about Rs.400/- with coupon system. That I think was unbelievable !
Bangalore strikes one as a ''clean city'' just as Bombay might strike one as ''filthy, smelly''...oops ! Actually I love Bombay, just cant stay away for more than 10 days!
I loved my 10 day stay in Bangalore and would love to repeat it some time....the sheer warmth of the Bangaloreans unwinds you and your inhibitions !
