The Object Of My Desire. Review on Balmain Watches

When it comes to watches I’m a hopeless romantic. It happens quite often that a watch on a display window catches my eye and I fall in love at first sight.

It happened again recently during a trip to the neighbourhood mall. I passed the display window only to do an about turn a second later. Looking back at me alluringly was the most unusual watch I had ever seen. Do check the photograph attached and you will know why it took me a couple of seconds to realise that what I had passed was actually a watch and not a piece of jewellery.

I held my breath and stared at it for I don’t know how long. Time suddenly ceased to exist. And then suddenly the urge to touch it and feel it around my wrist overwhelmed me. I tried to fight the sensation because I knew that I was infactuated, and once I wore it the infactuation will surely turn into love and then there will be no going back. But walking away from something so exquisite was impossible too. Finally I gave in and walked into the store. The salesgirl must have seen me ogling at the watch because her words of greeting were, “Would you like to try on the Arabesques Bijou?”

I nodded absently while the name echoed in my mind again and again….. Arabesques Bijou! Not only does the watch have a mysterious aura, it has such an exotic name too. And then it was in my hands! I ran my fingers over the artistic design, the mother-of-pearl dial and the black satin-polished strap, marvelling at the amazing combination of beauty and elegance. I slid it on my wrist and it happened…..the infactuation turned into true love! It looked as if it was made just for my wrist – which is surprising since I have a thick wrist and delicate pieces usually don’t look good on it. But this one did look good, this one was perfect!

And now it was time to get practical. I noted the brand name on the dial - Balmain. The salesgirl answered my unspoken query, “Yes Ma’am, the same Balmain whose dresses and gowns are worn by celebrities the world over on red carpet events. A reputed Swiss watch brand established by Pierre Balmain in 1945. Arabesques Bijou is a part of their latest collection”.

If she thought this information will impress me she was wrong. It scared me instead. Now I was afraid to ask about its price since I was sure it would be totally out of my reach. So I was relieved when she told me that it was quite reasonably priced at Rs. 16,000 (not that 16K is small change but with its design and heritage I expected it to cost a bomb).

I told myself not to be impulsive. No point making a dent in my bank account when I already owned a perfectly good black and silver watch. But I knew I was just fooling myself. There was no way I could have walked away from this beauty. There are times when you have to ignore your mind and just listen to your heart. I did.

I walked out of the store wearing the Arabesques Bijou on my wrist and a big smile on my face. And the smile kept getting bigger as the women passing me did double takes to stare at my wrist. My conscience kept trying to unsettle me with the question, “16,000 bucks! Is it worth it?” I saw a girl a few feet away checking out my watch from the corner of her eye and my vanity answered, “Totally!”
