WAVE -- A new wave in the scooter(Auto gear) segment ready to blow away the market acquired by Honda twins
Hello folks,
The very first time I am writing a review on a product which I do not own. However just for my curiosity, I took a test ride of this bike, went through the catalog of the bike as well.
Seems to be a good prospect.....
Let us check the bike now.... though I could not ride this vehicle for more than 3 KMS, but still I think you could know so many things in that much time on the vehicle.
BAJAJ WAVE:
Its a renewed version based on the old ''Saffire''. After launching the new Pulsar with DTS-i technology a couple of years ago and extending that technology to the Discover, Bajaj has now adopted the same twin-spark ignition technology to this new vehicle.
Here is a two wheeler which could give the Hondas(the Activa and the Dio) the run for their money.
Let us look into the specification of the model.
Body
The Wave sports the same new age design of the Saffire, with the semi-circular headlamp and alien-eyes style winkers set on dual-tone body panels. The meter-gauge in the Wave houses the speedometer, the fuel gauge, the high-beam indicator and the turn indicators. At the rear, the tail-lamp is integrated with the turn indicator lamps. The seat cushion of the Wave is too soft. It weighs 110 kg. The fuel tank capacity is a meagre 5 litres, which might be on the negative side, but I dont think you would get this bike on a longgggg ride... do you ?
All in all the looks of this vehicle is very cute.
Engine
The WAVE has a 110cc four-stroke, DTS-i engine. I think this is where it is going to make a huge difference, the tried and tested DTSi(Digital Twin Spark Ignition) engine on the WAVE. It has the power of 8 bhp at 7,000 rpm at the users disposal, compared to the Honda twins' 102cc engine, that peaks out at 7 bhp !! And it has also got ExhaustTEC, again a tried and tested technology from Bajaj which helps in fuel efficiency.
Brakes
It has the 130mm mechanically expanding drum-brakes at its disposal which is a very good prospect for a small tyred vehicle. I have tried the brakes and it seems to be very good one though it is always dangerous to pull the brakes on high speed with small tyre vehicles.
Shock absorbers
The suspension includes coaxial shock-absorber with a spring at the front. At the rear a single shock absorber and coaxial spring offers the Wave a very good ride quality and I guess this could be the advantage of this vehicle over its predecessors . The front suspension is really good however since the rear shock absorption capability depends on a single shocks so comparatively lesser comfort at the back.
Mileage
According to the dealers, it is expected to give a mileage of around 40 KMPL in par with the Hondas.
Price
The Wave is Offered at about Rs 32,500 (ex-showroom) which is much much lesser than its HONDA competitors.
Cons:
An option of adding a stepney tyre, which is not present.
The Wave could be an attractive proposition for buyers in this segment(Scooters or Auto gears).
