My brother bought a Pulsar DTsi in Jun 2005, I have used it several times. No doubt I thought Bajaj will become one of the best bike makers in the world. The bike returned around 40-45 KMPL, look and power of pulsar is simply superb. But things went awry after 3rd service, mileage nose dived to 30-32 kmpl, added to this was increased engine vibration. The bike has now done 9,200 kms and my brother is totally frustrated the way Bajaj services their bikes. My brother wrote to Regional manager, he requested the bike be given for service to experts from Bajaj, there was some relief. Bajaj said they have changed parts worth Rs.6700 and they didn't charge my brother. Vibration still persists in 3rd & 4th gear and is very uncomfortable to ride in these gears. I was surprised when I visited with my brother Khivraj Motors(B'lore) when we saw quite a few people complaining un-predictable performance after 15-20,000 kms. Overall service is very bad and Bajaj needs to do a lot to catch up with Hero Honda on service and quality front. I should summerise that Pulsar is king in the first 20,000 kms,...and there after it's performance can nose dive and give a kick on your bottoms. My brother is also finding hard to sell it at Rs.45,000.
I have posted opinion on my bike (Ambition-135) which is by far good experience compared to my brother's Pulsar (especially quality & service).
