WOW! I was so hoping to see this movie with a smile on my face and thinking…okay…there won’t be any vulgar scenes (there weren’t) and it’ll be a good family movie.
I was wrong about that it wasn’t that great of a family movie. Problem with Bollywood is that they take one concept, which might good but they make it into a very exaggerated situation and overacting by all the actors and add useless unnecessary loud songs.
Well this movie is a perfect example of that….I went in the theatre with a very huge headache (trust me Navratri wasn’t so good to me this year…was very sleepy and tired).
I would just like to say before I start my review… I did fell asleep in between some songs and some scenes….not that I missed anything. I knew the whole movie – it was so clichéd.
Now, Baghban was like a mixture of many Indian serials.
Meaning, nice wonderful parents (who are like Gods) believe that their kids (4 sons) are good people. Their sons are married with 2 grandchildren (one small boy and one extra large girl). Anyways, Parents retire and they think that their kids would be more than welcoming to have them stay in their house. But no, kids turn out to be ungrateful jerks and the bahus are all bitches.
Their children are only after their parents money and now that its gone …but Amitabh (the dad) is inspired to write a book on this horrible life he is living – separated from his wife. His book gets many awards and he is like RICH~ then his kids come back… to apologies. That’s basically what the movie is about.
MUSIC
I actually thought there were just too many songs…I can’t remember most of them. I liked listening to Chali Chali and'Main Yahan Tu Wahan' reminds you of “Neela Aasma So Gaya”. I m sorry but I would never buy this album…I can’t stand Amitabh Singing ….his voice is just for dialogue and not to be singing!
KAANTEs in the MOVIE
Acting by Amitabh is good – he excels in acting as a very hurtful husband and father.
Hema Malinistill can’t speak hindi. She looks gorgeous as always.
Salman Khan is forgetful in the movie. He is useless and acts so fake.
Mahimais wasted…but is ok in the little she has to do in the movie.
Aman Vermais again, overacting and just tooo damn dramatic.
Suman Ranganathamisn’t pretty to look at and can’t act.
Rimi Sen,she acts as if there is a 14 yr. Old girl stuck in a 24 yr. Old’s body.
Samir Soniis ok to watch…at least he has a good voice.
Divya Duttais actually good in the Bitchy Bahu role….she is mean and can act.
Rahul(the little boy) is so good, he is very confident.
Paresh Rawalin a very hilarious and sensitive gives the added “pro” to the movie. He is good in the movie! He is the best!
Lillete Dubeyoffers something good…in each movie she is in. She is nice too.
Others are ok .
Avtar Gill, Asrani and Sharat Saxenaare annoying at times.
GOOD POINTS – Family Values
> Karva Chauth Scene…very emotional (I cried!)
> Amitabh breaking his glasses and his son not giving him money to fix it.
> Lilette Dubey reading Hema's letter to Amitabh, since he broke his glasses (very sad…I cried again!)
> Climax – Amitabh explaining the relationship between children and parents.
RIDICULOUS ~ Just ridiculous
> Hema Malini and Amitabh acting as a newly wed couple in the begging of the movie.
> When they already have 4 sons why did they adopt another one!!
> Salman as a too goody shoes son…who actually puts his parents picture in the mandir (sorry I think that’s too far)
> Rimi Sen as Aman and Suman’s daughter- wow Aman must have married her when he was 10 yrs. old.
> Unnecessary family reunions and useless songs and too early festivals.
> Shows sons to be very cruel ( bahus I can understand) but ur own blood acting like that…it just too much of an exaggeration.
> Dogs running from Mumbai and reaching their old house…safely!
Overall, it’s a family movie – it could have been good but there were too many songs, and ridiculous scenes and useless sequences.
But emotion vise it’s a good one….& ITs a clean movie but I think this movie is gonna make today’s parent question their future…are their kids gonna be like this ?
(hmmm….)
Well that’s it ! Watch the movie once…but wait for it to come out on dvd so u can skip all the songs.
