What a treat for all Ranbir fans! The only hassle is the poor boy looks so chikna, chocolatey and young – it’s tough to find a girl who looks younger than him. So all his three heroines end up looking like his senior in college, auntie and older sister – in that order.
However an interesting, light hearted movie where they don’t dwell too much on the sob factor. Yes, the hero is a coward who runs away from tough situations. We don’t judge him and hate him for it because he is soooooooo cuuuuttttte. But then the director Siddharth Anand does that for us. He gets a taste of his own nasty not-the-marrying-type medicine and then it dawns on him how much he must have hurt the other two women in his life. So he goes back to make amends. Ah...all’s well that ends well.
So basically we go through life with smooth talking, casanova Raj as he seduces one girl after another. Shallow huh? But c'mon blame it on 'age' and hormones. He merely wants flings. Does not want committments. When its time to make a commitment, he runs away - even to the extent of leaving his 2-year live-in girlfriend waiting at the marriage registrar's office while he sneaks off and boards his flight to Australia.
Saving graces are its fabulous locales, excellent camera work and cinematography – make it light and breezy to watch. Music is average. Script is crisp and good. Ranbir does his part very well. You want to hate him for the creep that he is – but you simply can’t!
Minisha Lamba needs to get some acting lessons. She tried really hard – but simply could not emote. Deepika is not so great in the acting department, but a pleasant, dimply face to watch on screen, nevertheless. But the one who really stole the show was Bipasha. Terrific performance by her! She simple sizzles, oozes ooph and does her snooty celebrity act to perfection. Her almond eyes spew so much venom. Bacaho! I felt she was the one who added emotional weight to the movie. Otherwise it was one shallow journey. I guess even the director realized it because her role was far meatier than those of the other two.
In general, a nice move to watch after a long day at work. Does not ask you to think or analyse anything. Just look at cute, pretty places and people, eat your popcorn and go home feeling – thik tha - at least the ending was normal and acceptable to the Indian sentiment !
So if you haven’t watched it yet, have nothing better to do this weekend and want your head to continue feeling empty – you can do so now.
