Nice to see so many reviews posted on a tamil movie! When the credits were rolling at the end, the feeling was tired. A movie filled with same old cliches. Hero, heroine, villain, a supporting character .. Hero is a super talented fellow. He beats the villan easily. Just one word- tired.
But, there are good positives to take away. Cinematography was excellent. The feel of the scenes in Congo was like watching 'Blood diamond' with Surya in it. The stunt sequences in Congo deserve a special mention as well, though they appear to be straight lifts from Bourne ultimatum and Casino Royale.
Though the movie has over-descriptive scenes for the dumpsters, looks like KV Anand (Director) has learnt few tricks from Shankar. The movie has no logical fallacies; this for the screenplay part and the plot doesn't deserve the words like 'logic' tagged to it, for its outright straightforward.
Most heartening aspect of the movie is that it has less of gyan. With diamond trafficking for a storyline, it would have been easy for the director to include flash backs as to why the hero smuggles and how he uses it for social welfare! But the movie doesn't delve into such nonsense. Easy and straight-forward story telling makes it very predictable. But less of nuisance we invariably see in commercial tamil movies. In fact, scenes like Surya asking the police 'ayyo, Shakar padathula irundhu edutheengala' (Did you take it out from any Shankar movies?) when he tries to teach him the ill-effects of smuggling diamonds, are excellent.
Songs are real speed-breakers, even though the movie itself isnt anything you call as pacy. Tamanna is less irritating in comparison with Asin in Dasavatharam. But her attractiveness cannot be ruled out, at least to the extent of inspiring cinematographers. As of every Harris Jeyaraj songs, all the songs have a 'heard it before' feel to it. For instance, "pala palakkira .." is close to "oruvan oruvan mudhalali" of ARR and "money money..." is almost the same as his own "pudhu pudhu vazhiyadhu..", as far as my pattern matching ability goes.
I watched a movie in theater after a very long time, and ayan leaves that craving for a 'fantastic' movie intact. But you can kill 3 hours in a multiplex and you come out alive. Hence the recommendation.
